Cologne / Aftershave question.

I wasn't sure where to post this one, hopefully this is the right place. I can't seem to find any information about using cologne and aftershave together, or clashing and creating a stink. (Pun intended).

I'm wondering what do you guys do about Aftershave, and Cologne. Do you use the same brand name and scent, or is there sort of a mix and match process?

Also, thinking about it, one might want to consider the deodorant and bodywash as well.

Ugh. Thorny issue, especially if you happen to like more than one fragrance. If you are a Tabac man, then you're in luck, since they do all possible products. But some lines have only AS+cologne without the deo, or soap and cologne, but not AS, etc.

I try to match smells as much as possible, otherwise I end up smelling like white noise. But since I shave at night, by morning, my AS frag is gone, so I can put on whatever cologne I want, which is usually matched with a deo stick of the same smell.

On days that I shave in the morning, I try to coordinate the AS/balm and the cologne. Smells of the previous steps (body wash, shaving cream) tend to disappear by the time I'm at the AS stage.

It's not an issue for me. I use unscented products anyway, so in my case the cologne doesn't have to match or complement anything else.

I don't wear cologne everyday, but when I use both A/S and cologne, I either trust my nose to detect scents that will compliment, or conversely clash with, each other the first time around, or use combos that SWMBO has already given me positive feedback on.

For the most part I use aftershave splashes that match my colognes by brand and name. In fact, I specifically buy colognes that have matching splashes. Currently I have only one exception; Casswell-Massey sandalwood cologne has no matching splash.

+ another. The AoS and T&H unscented balms (among others) are great for this. I have even spritzed the dab of ASB in my palm with the frag of the day and rubbed it all together with my hands to get your own personalized ASB scent.

I do not worry about the body wash and deodorant, too much, although I use a lightly scented deodorant, perhaps out of this concern.

Re aftershaves, I generally use something lightly scented that I am sure will fade or that is inherently not very tenacious, such as non scented witch hazel or Superior 70 bay rum. (Some bay rums have cloves and cinammon and are tenacious!) I find that mentholated ***, even Prosaro, are not tenacious. Also, I tend to wipe my face with a hot damp towel after applying an alcohol based "AS" and then to apply a non-scented or very lightly scented AS balm, so the original scented AS is getting pretty much diluted and/or removed in that process.

So I pretty much do not worry about matching edt to AS.

Until I ran out, I was using SCS' Bulgarian Lavender After Shave Milk, which is fairly strongly scented. I found that that went pretty well with most of the scents I was wearing though, as sort of an underlayer. I do not think I would necesarily use it under something very gormand, but it went nicely with woods, fougeres, and others. Lavender shows up in lots and lots of scents, even if it is not the focus of the scent.

But mostly I tend to use lightly scented after shave stuff so that I can use whatever edt strikes my fancy with fear of clashing and without fear of over doing it.
