Colgate Shaving Soap?

So, are they making Colgate shaving soap again? I used it a lot years back, then (iirc) it was discontinued. Now I'm seeing on the web again.

Anywho, just curious. Thanks.

I cannot recall at all whether Colgate had any scent twenty years ago, but the guy selling it on eBay provides totally scentless pucks now. I'm betting there were a few cases discovered in a warehouse somewhere, and he's selling off his stock, a few at a time.

I'll also tell you that I just compared the list of contents for a new puck of Williams Mug Shaving Soap with a much older one, and the degree of change doesn't look as drastic as folks have made it sound. (Incidentally, there is no list of the contents on the Colgate package.)

New Williams soap:

Sodium Tallowate, Potassium Stearate, Sodium Cocoate, water, Glycerin, fragrance, Sodium Chloride (salt), Titanium Dioxide, Stearic Acid, Pentasodium Pentetate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, may also contain Sodium Palm Kernelate.

Out of those, salt and Stearic Acid aren't listed on the old box.

I have a puck of this and it lathered about as well as Williams. Which is to say not at all. Im almost betting its the same formula except the fragrance.

I tried adding it to my shopping cart at MedShopExpress and it came up out of stock. They had me going for a second (not that I was going to buy any).

Ah, I see. That's what I get for Googling it, but not adding to the cart. I showed up in the "Featured Listing" (or whatever Google calls it) so I figured it was for sale.

Oh well. Thanks.

When I started using shaving soap and a brush, about 45 or so, years ago, I tried Palmolive, Williams and Colgate. I preferred Colgate and was disappointed when it was discontinued. I tried to buy some on their site, too. No such luck. The price was too good to pass up. I know it is available elsewhere, but I am not willing to pay $5.00 or more for a puck. It was not that good.

Agreed, BlackBard. Good stuff, but not enough for a premium. Just wished I had bought some of those tubes of them to stash away. ;)

Its important to note this soap comes in 2 varieties from different eras. The cup soap is very good. Comparable with vintage williams. The mug soap makes a phenomenal paperweight
