What's new

Col. Conk's info - please

I use Van Der Hagen Deluxe (for sensitive skin) -- it's cheap, and I really like it. I have, however, been curious about Col. Conk soap. Anyone familiar with it? Good for sensitive skin? A barber shop here sells it (almond, amber, bay rum, and lime) for $3.95 a puck. Any information would be helpful. Feel free to PM.

The Amber would probably be the least likely to irritate. These are good glycerin soaps that work pretty good especially the almond.

I've tried them all and have enjoyed each one. The Bay Rum and Amber are my favorites. For 3.95 you really can't go wrong. I think performance wise they're very simular to VDH.

I'm just not fond of the Amber scent. It's not overpowering, which is definitely a good thing.

It's not bad stuff. I've only tried the bay rum, but it's a pretty good performer and smells pretty good, although not as good as Ogallala's Bay Rum soap. Still for $4, it's hard to beat.

I'm going to try the Bay Rum next. The Lime sort of creeps me out......:001_unsur

I like expensive stuff, but I've used Almond and it's not bad. I actually liked it as well as C&E Almond.

But it ain't no Proraso. :tongue_sm

I like Conks and don't have sensitive skin, but the Almond almost burns a little. Probably just a reaction to my chemistry. I like the scent enough to keep it in the rotation.

I have the amber and use it when I travel. Good scent and performs very well for an inexpensive product. Does not dry the skin and leaves it in good condition. I don't have sensitive skin so YMMV but I never had irritation while using this soap.

As far as I know Col Conks are made in the same factory as VDH, these are the same soaps as vdh glycerine, only the scent is different.

I haven't used it yet but will be soon. I sent an email to Col. Conk's about a week and a half ago asking about samples and today an envelope showed up with samples of each of their four soaps plus their aftershaves. They were very quick and generous. I can't wait to try their stuff, I've only ever used VDH too.

Good, inexpensive, thoroughly glycerine based soap...nothing to complain about. I've got the Amber and it lathers fine. Just gets less and less use with all the Tallow lying around :)

It isn't Proraso. . . .but it is good. Currently I use lime in my first two passes and then I use C. Bigelow (Proraso) for my third pass because I love how Bigelow makes my face feel. :thumbup1:

I have used the Col's products for many years. I have tried all of the scents and find Bay Rum to be my favorite. I like the almond as well. The lime was a gift and I have to say that I enjoyed it more that I thought I would. The Amber was fine, but it has been such a long time since I have used it, I don"t think that I can offer an honest evaluation other than to say that it lasted quite a while with no negative memories.

I find that they lather very well and the lather holds up well through my entire shave. They are a great value and certainly deserve a place in the shave den.
