Col Conk Amer -- what's that smell?

It smells like barbershops and maybe just a little bit like detergent or disinfectant or something clean. I recognize that scent, now what is it? It certainly isn't amber.

It isn't real amber. Real amber is whale hork (ambergris), specifically sperm whale hork. It's incredibly expensive if you can get it legally. All the amber you find is a synthetic fragrance, and can vary from different manufactures. I myself like the Col's amber soap.

I agree. Amber was the first shaving soap I ever smelled when I first started wet shaving and I thought to myself that I have smelled this scent before. I also chalked it up to smelling like soap or something I smelled at a barber shoppe when I was a kid. It is very clean. Since then I think I have placed the scent. I believe it is a generic commercial grade hand soap scent that they have in public restrooms.

Don't know where they get the name "Amber," but even with this comparison above I still really like the scent.

@Augustiner -- I think the gist of jlindy's post is that the name "amber" is a reference to ambergris, not the jewel amber. Ambergris is a product of the sperm whale intestine, and is apparently illegal to trade in most countries under laws/treaties that protect endangered species, but there are synthetic alternatives. So they call it "amber" since it isn't the genuine/illegal thing.
