Just took delivery of a bottle of the stuff, love the original, how does the special reserve compare? Bay rum should be here Monday.

The special reserve is pretty different from clubman. SR smells of smoke and leather. I love it.
SR is even better IMO but a lot more intense and longer lasting. Not keen on BR but many here love it ! Enjoy.
SR smells like a baseball glove.
I really don't care for the Special Reserve, but a lot of people like it. The Pinaud Bay Rum has more of a cloves scent than do other bay rums.

I get more of a moldy leather scent from it, not one of my favorites.

SR is great. Brings in thoughts of sipping rum and smoking a pipe in an overstuffed leather chair.
Go easy on that stuff, Porp, or you might see people holding their noses and pointing atcha! It really is very nice in small doses, though. After a shave, I like to wet my hands, add 4-6 drops of SR then smack myself in the face. Works pretty well for me.
Really? I slap that stuff on like Mandom.
Of course, I shave at night, so it has 8 hours to mellow before I walk into the office. But SWMBO loves it.
Agreed. Using a few drops and it's good...splashing it all over your face and it's way too overpowering.
The Special Reserve is my second favourite Pinaud Clubman, after the Original. I agree on the scent being totally different, but equally great. The desciption of "smoke and leather" given above by James is spot on.
The bottle says "After shave Cologne" so take that into account. It's way stronger than the original Clubman.
+1. I work in an office with all ladies and normally they don't notice any fragrance I'm wearing, but when I did a little bit too much SR, I got all sorts of comments, and none of them were good.
Special reserve has a woodsy. lethery, outdoors, manly, scent.
I find that it is close to the Master Challenge but different enough that they are not exact and unique.

Clubman Special Reserve is great stuff, part of my weekly rotation, but very different from the original, which I prefer slightly.

So I've been using it since it arrived. The wife loves it! I love it! As many have said, it's a very manly smell. I do find myself adding another drop to the palm each time I use the stuff. Trying to find the boundary line.
I like the special reserve. BUT........if you have ever had the good fortune of trying the old stock (in a glass bottle) special reserve (as well as regular clubman) it is soooooo much more velvety ( it is really the best word I could use to describe the difference to me)!
