Usually, I shave every other day and I get a pretty darn close shave. I shaved today after not shaving for 3 days, and it seemed like the shave was even closer. Is it possible to have closer shave after not shaving for more than a few days than it is shaving regularly?

I get a longer lasting more comfortable shave too. Closeness is about the same initially. No idea why.

With me, maybe I'm just imagining it, but it seems a little more closer too.
I also sometimes think this is the case... not sure if it is true or just perception.

The only reason I can think of is the longer hairs are pushing up the hairs above it, allowing for a closer shave.
Oh yeah, 3 or 4 days growth and it always seems to be an above average shave for me.
I think perhaps the skin has had more opportunity got recovery? 4-5 days growth plus a straight shave is mighty fine!

Yeah, i get this too. After a couple of days of growth I get a marvellous shave
I agree with this. Due to my job I have to shave every day and by the fourth or fifth day, regardless of blade, brush, razor, soap, etc, it's a bit of a rougher shave that day one. If I get 2+ days of a break, the shave is GREAT! I look forward to retirement just to be able to do this more often!
I don't think its any closer, just feels that way because of the amount of hair present before.
Same for me. I get the best shaves after 3 or more days growth. The BBS feels smoother. My theory is that hair grows at different rates. Even if you're BBS every day there are hairs too short to be cut everyday and are just waiting to pop above the surface. After 3 days for me they're all ready to be mowed together. It seem pretty consistent. That's just my guess but who knows?

FWIW, I've noticed this too (but I only rarely resist the daily shave). The real test is 24 hours later. Was it really closer or was it just enthusiastic perception.
I agree. I think its just more satisfying. I compare it to mowing your lawn. If it has gotten really high it looks so much better after you mow it, even though you mowed it to the same height as you always do. After we get used to rubbing our scruff for a few days a smooth face feels phenomonal. But its really no closer than after any other shave.
