What's new

Cleaning my razor and brush

I live in an area that has very hard water and fighting soap scum is a constant battle. I looked at my Edwin Jagger razor the other day and it just looked so dull and old. Soap scum had made the plated parts look horrible. I have an ultrasonic cleaner that I use to help keep my eye glasses looking good, so I thought I would give my razor a run in the cleaner to see if it helped. I filled the cleaner with clean water and added a little bit of cleaning solution made for ultrasonic cleaners and gave the razor an 8 minute run and now I have a razor that looks brand new. It shines as brightly as the day I bought it. Now, my brush looked horrible compared to the razor. My daily use brush is an Edwin Jagger Best Badger, so I gave it a run in the ultrasonic cleaner. I was almost afraid that the bristles may not come out well and that I might lose the brush. However, after an 8 minute run, the brush came out looking like new. I could not believe the amount of old soap that came out of the bristles. I thought I had rinsed the brush very well after each use, but I guess one cannot really get all of the soap out. Anyway, thanks to the ultrasonic cleaner, I now have a razor and brush that looks as new as the day I purchased them.

My razors rinse off dull after every use. I have to give them a wipe down with a paper towel and use a cotton swab for some of the nicks and crannies. This sounds like a good idea!

The one danger of the ultrasoncis is that it will remove the paint from your razor. I learned that the hard way when I put my FB in the cleaner only to have the painted numbers lighten up.

That shows you what hard water will do. I was never aware that it could make such a difference. My water, according to the local government, is right about in the middle range for hardness and, I now consider myself very lucky, my razors rinse off sparkling clean.
