Cleaning a used feather as-d1 razor

What would be the proper way to clean a used feather? I am toying with the notion of a barbicide soak for 10 min, however I am wondering if it would discolor the coating. Any hints?

I'll give it a go replying since no one else has. I'm no expert on cleaning, but I do have a well used and loved AS-D1...

I've never soaked mine in anything. In fact, I've never cleaned it at all. All I have ever done is rinsed it off in hot water and troweled the parts off occasionally. If simply washing it by hand in warm soapy water is not sufficient, you might try giving it a gentle scrubbing with mild toothpaste and a toothbrush.

I may be too late, but I wouldn't boil the razor. Simply use a little scrubbing bubbles (let it sit for about 30 seconds) and an old toothbrush and it will look like new.

+1 (great advice)

Followed the link to the thread re the feather soaked in bleach that was a horror story I would not like to reproduce. I will err on the safe side just very hot tap water and dish soap.

Who advised the OP to use bleach in this thread?

Did I mention bleach? I don't think so. I cautioned care. That's all. It's not wise to use some chemicals on the finished surface of the AS-D1. It's not an unfinished stainless steel. My link showed an almost worst case example to make the point of gentle care. Don't read into it so much.

Properly diluted Barbicide will not harm the razor in a 10-minute soak. If you already have some, by all means use it as a final cleaning stage.

The Feather AS D1 is a coated razor and the coating is FRAGILE.

You do not need to soak it

You do not need to use nasty cleaners on it.

DO NOT uses any bleach as even 60 seconds in diluted bleach will start to remove the coating.

DO not boil it.

A soft tooth brush and a common dish washing detergent with warm water is all it needs.

If you are worried about "germs" and you have barbicide do not let it set in THE PROPER dilution of barbicide (read the bottle) for longer than 10 minutes MAX.

+1.......Easy does it is the right path I would think. One of the great things about a three piece is there's hardly a place you can not clean with ease. I would not worry about cleaning it any more harshly than the silverware down at the restaurant.
