Cigar Store Ownership

Does anyone here own a cigar store or know someone who does? I'm working on a business plan for a cigar/pipe store for a capstone class.

Right now I'm trying to build a sales forecast, and need to know how many units a typical store sells, and if there's a seasonal effect (there is next to zero information on the tobacco industry's sales relating to cigars/pipes).

If anyone can help me out with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have no first had knowledge but check out the RTDA website and maybe you can get in contact with someone there.

The only information I can give you is a few tidbits I've picked up from people at the B&M:

1. Pipes tend to sell better in the winter than in any other season.

and 2. Sales tend to be slow in the first few months of the new year, due to people recovering from Christmas, though I suspect that is ubiquitous.

Sorry I can't help you with the total sales for a cigar / tobacco shop but the one down the road from where I work took $160 off me today

While I have no first-hand knowledge on this, my suggestion would be to seek out information from local, established B&Ms.

Online, you may want to take a look at Tobacconist University and talk with some of the certified tobacconists listed on the site.

Hope this helps a bit.

I am actually in the process of getting a business plan together to do just this!!!

I will have completed the plan by mid April I think, so if you want to take a look at it, drop me a line and I can send you the finished product-I would like to run a cigar/pipe shop but I can't do that right out of college, so it's of no use to me right now.

Cool. That would be awesome.
