Chubby 2 vs 1 ?

Hi - I am considering either of these two beasts and am afraid that the 2 will be quite larger than one? I have Geo F Trumper Large brush 2236s ( which I think is vulfix) and absolutely love it but I have no experience with these beasts. Any input would be greatly appreciated !!!!...Thank you.

I am mainly a 60 % cream and 40 % soap user.

BTW - almost always I have no more than 2 passes - and a little more for touch ups

I would have said the CH2 2 band would be my choice, but as you only use a couple of passes I'm not sure you'd really fully utilize anything that big.

Some folks find the handle size of the CH1 a little small so they are steered towards the Duke 3 which has a more comfortable handle and a "similar" size knot to the CH1.

I't doesn't really answer your question but that's what I'd recommend a short loft (they can vary) Duke 3 in Best. If you want bigger (28mm) then I'd go for the CH2 in 2 band.

Would love to see some side by side shots of the two. I have the ch1 and do find myself wondering about the larger ch2 sometimes.

This topic actually makes me quite angry.

There is a HUGE amount of difference between the CH1 and the CH2.

Why can't the CH1 be a bit bigger?! Or at least make a CH1½...

There is a noticeable difference between the CH1 and CH2. When I was feeling them out and trying to decide I ultimately came to the conclusion that the CH2 was simply too big for my face. So, in the end (obviously) I went with the CH1 and it is one of my favorite brushes. I don't actually use it that often with creams but it is an absolute beast with soaps even hard/triple milled soaps.

Here's the real kicker, though.
The Pre-Vulfix Simpsons CH1 was a decent sized brush!
It's like someone at Vulfix had really small hands, and decided to take out his anger on the world of wetshaving.

Thanks Hunter, I didn't know the prefix CH1 handle was that different in size to the Simfix CH1

The CH2 is one of my favorites but then I like big brushes,

I also find the chubby 2 too big for me so i sold it. its sad that vulfix has downsized the ch1 , the old one seems to be the perfect size , thanks to Huntmol for the pictures

what's also interesting in the shape of the vulfix made simpsons is how chunky they are compared with the originals. the originals were curvy but the handles vulfix has been making were much more straight and 'chunky.' no curvaceousness. BUT, the ones i've seen lately are more 'curvy' than the earlier vulfix. so, i think there is still hope that vulfix is constantly improving these brushes and realizing that the simpsons brand of brushes are special. they cannot be churned out on a manufacturing line. each one is different and unique and that's what makes them great IMO.

This is one of those in-between-sized brushes. I think the best advice given here was that if you find the CH 1 too small, and the CH 2 too big, then go to the Duke 3.

I agree that the CH 1 and the Duke 3 are the same brush but the Duke 3 provides a slightly larger, albeit different shaped, handle.

With that being said, the Duke 3, could possibly be my favorite brush. :a49:

After recently ordering the B+B Eagle I also bought a Wee Scot, which became my first Simpsons brush. I figure that all of the soap and cream that I save using that little brush should be used at some point....... I might just dash off and order a Chubby2 :001_cool:

I was thinking the same question. I find knot size to be a crazy thing. I have a 24 boar and its great, I have a 24 best badger and the end of the brush (bulb?) if that was is called is so much bigger, is that due to higher loft size? Is that a common thing badger knot being bigger, size for size.

I have 22 badger and 24 badger. The 22 badger is great and so is the 24 boar, they act the same size wise, but the boar is nice and stiffer. The 24 badger is just too big and floppy, but I have been warming up to it a little.

So should I get a ch1 Was thinking of 2 band, I hear they are stiffer less bulb. I know the ch1 has a 23 knot, is there a brush like that with a bigger handle?

Any help would be great. Don't know if I should of posted this in its own thread.

thanks,

Crom

Stiffness is a product of hair type, density and loft.

If you'd like a stiffer badger go for 2 band but I would start your own thread.

The Duke 3 and Chubby 1 have the same size knot, but I definitely found my Chubby 1 (Super) stiffer and much denser.

Go for the Chubby if you want insane density and stiffness - the Duke is a better all-rounder.

Would be interested in the differences between the Chubby 1 Best and Super?

I totally agree with Bob, who is a great Simpson's connoisseur.
The Duke 3 is a fantastic all-purpose shaving brush and my personal favorite, too.:thumbup1:
