What's new

Chubby 2 or custom brush?

My brush AD has kicked in and I am looking for another brush.
Current brushes:
Omega 10066 boar-great with soaps and face lathering
Vulfix 2234s- regulated to the drawer as it was a little too floppy
Omega 620 silvertip- love this for bowl lathering and creams

Looking for a brush that is good with soaps such as DR Harris, Mike's etc. and bowl lathering. Guess I am looking for something in between the boar and badger Omega's. The boar has too much backbone and the badger not enough for soaps.

The dimensions of the Chubby 2 look about what i am looking for but being realitively new I want to make sure. Also found you can have Shavemec make a custom brush for you which sounds intriguing too. Have to admit that the price of the Chubby is a little more then I ever thought I would spend on anything for shaving but if I get exactly what I want then I can justifiy it.
Looking for advice on another brush!!

Have you considered a TGN Finest? The 24mm knots can be matched with a nice handle and set at a loft of your choice - I got one, assembled, custom set and shipped down under for about 60 clams. Astonishing value IMHO...

I find the Chubby 2 excels at face lathering. I have bowl lathered using the Chubby without issue, but I have brushes I much prefer to use with a bowl than the Chubby.

I have no custom brushes, but I do have a Chubby 2. It is the most dense, luxurious brush I own, well next to my Chubby 3. The handle size doesn't make it ideal for bowl lathering, but it does bowl lather. Due to its density it holds a ton of lather and has a face feel that is incredible. But, they ain't cheap. That said, it is one brush I probably will have for a long time.

Why don't you talk to Rudy Vey. He is a well respected brush maker on this forum and I believe that he can use shavemac knots, TGN knots and possibly others. Tell him what you want and he'll be able to guide you through the process.

You can special order a Shavemac in D01 3-band with any specs you want. You won't be sorry. Great with soaps, even hard triple-milled. The D01 3-band has extremely soft tips and excellent backbone.

When you go to the Shavemac website, in the SEARCH window, type EXPERT, and enter. The customize-from-scratch interface will appear.

I forgot to mention that, IMHO, you get more bang for your buck with Shavemac.

Thank you for the suggestions. Going to take a look at some of the recommendations and make a decision.
Hopefully the brush AD will die after this brush.

BAD is difficult to suppress. If you shoot too low you will always have doubts till you get your dream brush. If you shoot high you can sell, recoup, and regroup. Then your BAD will be cured. You will have been there, done that, and can settle in based on personal experience rather than holding doubts that accompany trying to follow the advice/experience of others.

Contacted Rudy Vey and he is putting something together for me. Cannot wait to receive it and be able to use it.

Rudy has done two brushes for me, one with a TGN 2-band knot and one with a WSP 2-band knot. He does excellent work. I have a Simpson Chubby 2. I also have a Chubby style handle Rudy made for me which is as nice as the Simpson. When you consider the price of a TGN knot and what Rudy charges for the handle, you're getting a brush as good as any of the name brands at a fraction of the cost.

Just received my new brush from Rudy Vey! Very impressed and had to do a practice lather with it and think this will cure the brush AD.
Not sure how to rotate the photo. If any of the mods can help it would be appreciated.
