What's new

Check out my new(priceless) razor!

I'm a newbie, but I wanted to post this one here.

I went to take my 87 year old Dad home after a heart cath today(he did great, Thank God!!) and I told him this was my first week on the DE's. He gave me the razor below. He has used disposables for years now. Anyway, I brought it home, cleaned it up and shaved using a Crystal instead of a Feather. The other shaves this week were great, but this was the best. Was it the razor or the blade? You know the answer.

Family treasures are really something, eh?
Hold on to that, and tell the story to your son when you give it to him.

It was the razor. :lol::laugh:

Gillette Ball End Techs are awesome, and very under-appreciated on this board!

That is awesome that you now have a piece of your family history that you can actually use, and use with great results! :biggrin1:

I learned on my grandpa's ball-end tech, too! I liked Personna Reds in mine.

Does he have anything else hidden away? I scored a travel ball-end also that way, and my grandma's slim adjustable which is real cool. Also my greatgrandpa had an Old Spice mug and some other cool stuff, and probably has some more treasures in storage.

EDIT: Here's a pic of stuff found in my family's cabinets (minus the Progress): http://bigrevmedia.com/shaving/IMG_3553_1.JPG
DOUBLE EDIT: Wow, I have five DE razors? Scary. I only paid for one, though

check today's SOTD and you can see mine - no family history tho, just £11 to an eBay seller :biggrin1:

Awesome story, use it in good health and enjoy.

I know what you mean, I have my dad's 56' SS and this thing is always the best shave....

Very nice indeed. Use it in good health.

Try it with a Feather. The sharp Feather + the mild Tech = VGS.

P.S. Glad your Dad did well with the procedure.

Thats a great post to read. The razor looks great. I would have thought that if it was gold plated it would have worn off by now. Obviously it was well made, unlike today.

Its the family razors that are the most pleasurable to shave with! Its the feeling you get that no-other razor has!

I have my Great-Grandfather's Fat handle tech, and my Grandfather's Slim Adjustable. My two favorite razors, the great men whom originally owned them inspire me every time I use them.

My late father's DE razor has gone astray. He had used the same spartan instrument for decades - possibly even from his service in WWII - and I remember it as being brass. He switched to using disposables in the eighties, but wouldn't have thrown it away - he never threw anything away - so it's probably still in one of his boxes of stuff.

My brother and I did start investigating some of the boxes, but stopped to save my mother's feelings, when we came upon a number of 'french' postcards the old man must have acquired during his time in the middle east just after the war. I'm heading home again in a few weeks, so if I can get my brother to distract Mam for a while, I'll have another delve and see if I can find his old razor.
