Chapped lips

Hi
was wOndering, I seem to be getting chapped lips since starting with a DE. Could this be the alum block drying them? Any ideas on avoiding this would be welcome.

Oh and week two is starting well, still shaving at night as I have more time. Done three passes and it took 30 mins from start to finish but got my first BBS and a slight razor burn on my neck.... Ouch!

First, welcome to B&B!

I don't have your problem, but just thinking of alum on my lips is getting them chapped. My suggestions might seem obvious, but just in case:

1) Don't put alum on your lips! Just rub it on the shaven areas of your face. If you MUST rub around your mouth, consider sucking in your lips when you do so.

2) If you're not already doing so, remember to rinse the alum off of your face after you are done with it. Leaving alum on can REALLY dry out your skin.

Yeah, man...don't lick the alum. I know it tastes great.

Stop shaving so much and chasing the "BBS" and you won't get burn.

Its your Alum block, dont get it on your lips or lick around lip area, Alum block does seal and Dry cuts so it will dry your lips.

If you continue having chapped lips I recommend unrefined shea butter. I always have had chapped lips but the shea butter is really keeping them under control! I just apply it daily at night before going to sleep.

Cheers for the welcome and the advice.
I haven't it so into the alum to suck it yet and don't really put it on my lips either but then again I dont rinse it off either - that's probably my problem.

Havent got the slightest degree of burn this morning, reckon I'm just a big baby not used to a real shave yet.

I think that the crappy weather in Belgium and the excess alcohol at te weekend may also have contributed to my dry lips. Will let you know of it continues but in any case they are already feeling better after a good dose of nutragena lip balm - if it's good enough for Norwegian fishermen then it's good enough for a bored Belgian banker!

+1. Doesn't have the petroleum products like the other balms and has lanolin.
lanolin lip balm ? do they make a good veggie based one, hmm if cade tastes as good as it smel.... no no silly idea nevermind

+1 to washing it off though if you get cold dry winds there baker you certainly dont want to leave it on and go outside, i did that once forgetting to wash it off and went out on a cod winters night to shovel driveway,... like i said, i did it once lol

Here's the label from the Burt's stick that I've been carrying around in my pocket for a few months....

It could be caused by the shave soap/cream. I believe they are alkaline. I notice some irritation of my lips as well. I try to make sure my lather isn't too concentrated and use chap stick.
