Cella

Got to looking at Cella in the forum this morning, and have a question on using it (or any other "soft" soap). Given that one gets it in the red bowl, how do you take it out and lather it? Swirl the brush in the red tub? Scoop some into a bowl and bowl lather? Put some on the tip of the brush and face lather? Rub it on your face and face lather? Curious. Thanks!

Sorry, should have posted in the soap section! Did, and have an answer over there. If interested, look under Cella post there.

I consider it more of a soap than a cream, but there are a raft of products that are in between. I always use the dip and twist method to some extent with any product in a tub. Cellas red tub doesn't provide much working room (its smaller than most soap containers) but it is adequate. If it seems to be a problem getting it loaded into your brush, try a bit more water.

Technically it could be a cream or a soap. If you want to be technical though, even WCS has it labeled as a cream. So you are in the right place, except both places are the right place....right. From what I hear most people just give the brush a swirl in the container like a soap. I have a tub of it and some Astra SP's heading this way from WCS after using QED soaps and Proraso creams for over a year! So I will let you know how it goes.

Unless I have missed something Cella, to the best of my knowledge, is manufactured as a cream and is much different in consistancy to the soap.

I don't believe so, they make a single product that can't really be described as a cream or soap. It's like a very thick putty, some call it a soft soap, some call it a dense cream.

Cella is a cream/soap (crema/sapone).
It is softer than a soap and harder than a cream, therefore some consider it a soft soap, others consider it a hard cream.
Both definitions are correct, or both are wrong.
Many Italian shaving products, and among these Cella, are in their own "in between" category.
I just posted a thread today regarding Cella, in the soap section.

wet your brush, swirl it in the red bowl for 20 seconds, then face lather with it. Any foam that gets outside of the red bowl, also gets put on your face.

My Italian is virtually non existant but the soft soap/cream in a red tub is "Crema Da Barba" which I thought translates to cream and the 1kg block is "Crema Sapone" which I thought would mean soft soap or cream soap. In any case it is another great product from italy.

MMMM, used it this morning....LOVE that Cella. To me a cream has a consistency like pudding. If I swirl my brush on it to load, it's a soap.
It IS a soft soap though. To answer your question, wet brush, shake out excess water, and swirl right in the container to load. Go to bowl or face, and enjoy mountains of lather!

Cella is incomperable. The smell of almond, the texture, everything........wonderful sapone.

I just pull it out of the red tub and press it into my shaving mug, like I was pressing putty or marzipan into the mug.

I'd eat that stuff if I could. Such a great product.

This is not a cream but a soft soap. Therefore, it should be used like you would any other soap. Transfer the Cella from the pretty red tub to a bowl. Don't worry, it can sit out like any other soap. Also, I have found through experience that the Italian soaps (Cella, Valobra, P160 Tipo Duro and Morbido) work better with boars than badgers....for me. Also, do not try to do the "place an almond size piece of the soap in a bowl" like you would do with a cream.

My technique is that I load my trusty Semogue 1438 with hot water and go straight to the soap. After 25 or 30 seconds, I have the most wonderfully rich and creamy lather that gives me a great shave. I'll admit that I had a little longer learning curve with the Cella but it was worth it. This is a great soap. I highly recommend you try the Valobra and P160. Each is great has has its own unique qualities. Hope this helps.

My Brick of Cella is awaiting my return, I cannot wait to whip it up. I did try a sample of P160, enjoyed it very much. I am lead to believe that the Cella will have a little thicker density to the foam and be somewhat slicker.

I would love to transfer some of my new Cella brick into an old style Travel tube like those used for soap sticks.

Something like Cella can easily be mashed into a glue stick container. Or an old deodorant container, especially the travel sized ones!

Agreed. Received a packet of Cella cut from a massive block. This was pressed into a stainless steel bowl (with a great deal of hilarious farty noises) and is used like a soap. Wow, it's hard not to get crazy lather off the stuff! An excellent product.

I like your thought process. I'm going to give a deodroant container a go. Should work well. I am going to be on the look out for one of the Stainless steel travel tubes. I have a bit of a thing for Stainless steel.

Shave well.

Of course, everyone has personal preferences regarding lathering technique, but preferences aside, I don't see what the big deal is about lathering with Cella or the red tub it comes in. Yes, it's relatively small, but since it's used for merely loading the brush as opposed to whipping up a lather, why on earth would it need to be any bigger, or why would the soap need to be removed from it's red container and placed in a different or larger container? It's such a soft soap and loads incredibly easily; 20 seconds of swirling with a damp brush and it is loaded sufficiently to produce all the lather I need for 3 or 4 passes. I suppose it could be a bit tricky with a very large brush, but it works perfectly with my 22mm Rooney. Personally I face lather, but either way you should be good to go. A little soap/lather usually gets on the outside of the bowl; I just wipe it off with a towel when I'm done shaving and put the lid back on.
