CC wish list

Self Ignored by Vista
What: 1st Gen Colt Detective Special loaded with 158gr LSWC-HP +P for carry and 148gr LWC for practice.

Why: Small enough to conceal, decent power, nostalgia. And since I was initially trained on revolvers I seem to shoot them a bit better than a semi-auto...with the exception of my custom Colt 1911.

I still find my 2nd generation Glock 23 to be just about ideal.

So maybe another one or a G26/27 (never shot either of the baby Glocks).

I already have what I want for CC; Walther PPK/S. But I would like to add the Ruger LCP as well.

On most days I carry a S&W 642 (J frame .38) or S&W Bodyguard .380. I really like both and cant fault either in any real respect. On most days I prefer the .380, just because its a bit thinner and lighter; to the point of forgetting its there.

I trust my 642 a bit more though; something about the reliability of my revolver is pretty comforting.

Before I bought my Bodyguard, I looked at the Colt .380 Mustang Pocketlite and the Rohrbaugh. Both are a little pricey for what they are, but if $ were no object I would pick up both.

I quite like my little Kahr CW9 for concealed carry. I think the best combo of power, ammo capacity, shootability, and conceal-ability for everyday CCW is a single stack 9mm. And the Kahr is as good as any other I have tried and quite a bit better than some. If money were no issue I'd upgrade to the slightly better finished and more accurate P9, but that's a small thing. I'm not wedded to it though. If money were truly no issue I might pick up several of the different single stack 9s on the market and carry each for a few weeks to decide if there's one I prefer to the Kahr.

Actually, if money were no issue I would have several firearms to mix and match for CCW depending on the weather, my wardrobe for the day, and my anticipated activities for the day. So in addition to the Kahr I'd get a mid sized double stack 9 or .40. Something like the Sig 229, the Glock 19/23, Springfield XD, etc. This would be a bigger gun for an OWB holster on days I can wear one. It would give me more ammo capacity and slightly better shooting dynamics than the smaller Kahr. I haven't range tested these enough to pick an exact brand and model yet.

On the other side of the spectrum I'd get a little .38 snub nosed revolver. A good condition Colt Detective Special or Cobra would be awesome but a Smith and Wesson J-Frame is probably more realistic. I would get an ankle holster for this but I have a suspicion I would quickly ditch that for a regular pocket holster. This gun would be primarily a backup but on days or activities when my wardrobe makes CCW especially difficult (going to the gym especially) this would be my primary gun.

What would be your choice for CC if price or availability was no object? Why?

Choice #1: Seecamp 380 (9mm short) stainless (6 round)

Choice #2: Bauer Baby Browning (25 acp) stainless (6 round)

The reason? Small. Reliable. Stainless. Either can be in your front pocket 24/7/365 and both are smaller than your car key ring.

It does no good to have a 40 S&W or 45 ACP if it is so big you leave it at home most of the time or you have to wear an uncomfortable body holster to keep it in which makes it very inaccessible.

Bauer Baby Browner 25 acp on the left. Seecamp 380 on the right. Quarter and dollar bill for size comparison

Interesting little guns and ones that I've never seen before.

I'm definitely with you on the size issues. My CC guns all go in my front pocket, so I prefer as small and as light as possible; while still being effective. I wouldn't want anything bigger than what I've currently got so that rules out most guns above .38s and .380s.

The Bauer has not been made for about 30 years but the Seecamp is still a current production firearm. It is a very small company and the wait for these little guns can be a while.

What are those - like a 2 round magazine? :biggrin1: Well - the .380 model looks cool - I do not favor the .32 auto round, although I do have a PP in .32

Ok - here we go. This Ruger Redhawk Alaskan in 454 Casull. If nothing else, the muzzle flash would impress.

I remember now; I actually have heard good things about a Seacamp. Have not heard about or seen one of these for a long time. Good to know they still make them.

I have a Walther PPS and love it.
the next things on my wish list are,
1) mid sized 9mm. I'll probably go with a cz75 compact or the Sig p229
2) Walther ppk. (Little things just disappear in suits)
3) 4" 1911

OMG - I have a CZ 75 and it is OUTSTANDING!! A PPK is better than a PPK/S; another great choice.

But do look at a CZ 75, and better yet, find a buddy who can you try one out.
