Carbon Fiber handles

Hey guys. Other than the MÜHLE brush which retails for almost $700, does anyone know of another manufacture that offers Carbon Fiber handles?

The brush for someone that has more money than they know what to do with... Wish I had that problem!!

Yikes, I pressed the wrong button and ordered 3 of them! No prob: I'll just tell my kids that elementary school was more than enough schooling--time for them to earn their room and board . . .

Omega makes one -- the 6650. ShoeBox Shave Shop has them.

Quite a bit cheaper... It is a good looking brush in person. I bought one being a black badger fan and I liked the carbon fiber look. Unlike other black badger brushes I have, this one is very soft, even a bit floppy. I like the black badgers for the scritch, so less enthused about this knot from that standpoint. The handle is very cool looking and makes a nice complement to the black badger knot. As is the nature of carbon fiber, the handle is very lightweight. Again, YMMV, but I'd personally like it to have a little more weight to it. For the price, you could take the $645 saved and replace the current knot with one of your choice and have a quasi-custom carbon fiber brush...

Cheers!

That is a beautiful handle. I love the Carbon Fiber look but the shape is just as stunning. I've never used Pure Badger. What's your experience?

I don't think that omega is carbon fiber. Not to say carbon fiber is better in this situation, but I'm imagining the muehle is heavy

WRT the "pure badger," I'm guessing that it means nothing more than "all badger hair." I don't think it has any more defined meaning like silvertip, etc. I have several black badger brushes. The ones that I personally like have more backbone, more scritch than the other various grades of badger. Makes for a nice, slightly scrubby brush. I can use mine for bowl lathering, face lathering, etc. -- but I'm not that particular either. Personally, my black badger brushes with knots from TGN are my favorites in my collection. Comparing the Omega knot in this brush to a TGN knot, the Omega is much softer. Depending on what you like, this may be an improvement or a downside relative to a TGN knot. I like the scritch from the TGN, so I'd prefer that style over this one. That being said, it is a great brush and I use it frequently...

Well, I haven't smashed it with a hammer to see the fibers, but having more than my share of carbon fiber bike frames, accessories, etc. I'm pretty confident it is. One of the main reasons for the popularity of carbon fiber is that it is a light weight but very strong and stiff substance. Thus it's use in bikes, AV8 Harrier jets, etc. I suspect the Omega brush is "just" a carbon fiber shell and is therefore very light. If the Muehle is heavy, it's the stainless steel on either end, not the carbon...

Cheers!

Thanks for that. I have a Chubby 3 in the mail and when I feel the need for something new, the Omega will be the one I go for. It's one of the best looking brushes I've ever seen

Yep, great for saving weight in structural applications like bike frames, aircraft, etc. Pure overkill for a shave brush handle. For people with more money than sense.

After trying a few brushes, I've settled on an Omega Sintex 90018 for face lathering with a stick, and a synthetic badger from TGN in my father's Surrey handle for everything else. Anytime SBAD starts to rear its ugly head, I simply remember the DFS I've most recently had with either one.

What makes the price for Mühle is:

- Uniqueness: They made a limited run of that brush. It's made to celebrate their anniversary.

- Quality: It's not 10 times better than 30€ brush, but it's pretty much as good as badger brushes can ever be.

- Style: Clean lines, unique design, their best people on the job - it's their tour de force with natural brushes.

So no, I don't see the practical reason for anyone to drop 300€ for that brush, if thet think it's very expensive. It's the same as one doesn't need to blow their credit card to afford a beautiful, handmade 10 000€ watch if they are happy with their Timex - or to get an small run fountain pen if they find their Bic perfect for them.

Then again, should we make all our purchases with purely practical reasons, I think our lives would be a lot more hollow. The brush mentioned above isn't, after all, so terribly expensive - for a luxury item.

Humans aren't sensible customers all the time. Thank the proverbial god/spaghetti monster/chulhu for that.
