Car Boot Find

I picked this up today for 30p / 50 cents. I don't know what its real use is but it fits my hand perfectly as a shaving bowl and also has a nice weight to it so its ideal to have as a spare. Shame its smooth inside but it still whips up a good lather. Unfortunately I never seem to find any vintage razor's but I will keep looking.....Cheers....Ian.

I have two of those and find them very comfortable to use. When you can search out French onion soup bowls and many come with lids. I like the ones in particular that are 4-6" inches across as they allow enough natural motion of the wrist necessary to create great lather. I too bought mine at your equivalent of boot sale/estate sales for under a $1. I also like the fact on the bottom if on chooses to hold them as you do many have that raw clay on the bottom makeing for excellent grip in the palm of ones hand. Congrats on a good score.

The one I have is 4 1/2" diameter across the top and 3" deep. I thought it might be a French onion soup bowl but wasn't sure. Thanks for the info.

yes, they are french onion soup bowls. Pretty sure every new B&B wet shaver has picked one up and used to lather in.

They make great little lather bowls and are easy to find in 2nd hand stores like Goodwill, SallyAnn etc.

This is my regular bowl which I got from Steve Woodhead Pottery UK. Now if I could find one of these for 30p then I would have been the happiest man at the Car Boot Sale. I've just been looking on eBay UK for French onion soup bowls and for some reason there's only a couple with handles from the UK, the rest being from the US. Perhaps these are used more in the States?
