Can't get a slick lather out of AoS

So I've been messing around with tallow soaps lately. I tried some DR Harris Arlington (from a sample) and got a very nice thick and lubricated lather from it.

With my AoS lemon soap I just can't get it to work for me. It just isn't slick, it's very thick lather but not lubricating enough. I'm wondering, is this soap just characteristically like that or is there a technique to get a good lather out of it?

Thanks

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the lemon. I like AoS and I get a rich, slick lather without doing anything unusual. I soften my soap with a little bit of hot water while I shower. At the same time, I soak my brush. When I'm ready to shave, I pour the water off the soap, shake out my brush, and load it up with soap. I face lather, dipping the brush into the sink when I need more hot water. That's all it takes to get a great lather that both cushions and lubricates.

The one thing that I can't get out of AoS lemon soap is any lemon scent!

AOS lemon has become one of my favorite soaps recently. One thing I did notice is that is started producing better lather when I started using a boar brush. And mine is very lemony.

+1
Pretty much agree with above (my experience is with AoS Sandalwood). The one thing I would say is it's a pretty hard soap so it may take a little extra softening and loading.

I've got AOS Sandalwood cream, that lathers like crazy. I would have thought the soap would too. Maybe it's your water. Or maybe you got a bad batch.

Oh I get plenty of thick lather, it just isn't as slick as I'd like. It's more like a cream in consistancy.

Yes, I find that AOS is a tad less slick than other triple-milled tallow soaps. If it really a problem for you, I would be willing to dispose of the puck on your behalf

Well, I milled it into a container, I'm not sure if you'd like it like that (although I'd want to keep my container).

Come to think of it I've got quite a few aftershaves I've got to get rid of too that didn't work for me.
Not to mention all the blades that I won't use since I found my favorites.

I'm really in love with DR Harris Arlington soap, I'm wondering if I'd like their other soaps too. It Just MIGHT be slicker than TGQ soaps.

I found the AOS just a bit less tolerant of wrong water soap ratios. Keep adjusting it. I didnt like the smell, though the lather was pretty high class. I have mine for sale but I need 48 more posts to put it up.
