Canned Goo

Please don't excommunicate me for this question. In about two weeks I will be going to officer training school for the month. What is the general concensus for choosing a simple and quick shaving solution? I will probably use a Fusion but what for goo? I know the goo is never preferable but it is only for a month. Any help would be great with out abuse please.

Thanks

save your face and get a brushless cream (like: KMF, Cremo, Kiehl's, Trader Joes/alba's, American Crew, etc.) instead. Even if you go back to the multiblade for a time. Your face will thank you. You should be able to find at least one of those at a store near by and for not much money. Then, if you have any left, you can save it for your travel kit.

Is this the LDO/Warrant "Knife and Fork" school or a direct commission training school?
In the case of the former, you will have all the time you need, can get up as early as you like etc, so no real need to change anything.
If it's the latter, or something else where time may be an issue (can't get up before reveille but must be out the door 30 minutes after) then you'll have to do what you have to do and soldier through it with whatever means necessary. Always time to toss the garbage afterwards.

It's the latter, COT training for the Air Force. No prior military training, should be a "lot of fun". I really thought I needed a brush for my tube of Proraso, I'll give it a try.

Thanks

If a time comees when I am ever "forced" to use a canned product again, I would select Gillette Foamy Lemon Lime. The smell reminds me of my Dad.

Unfortunately, Gillette has changed the scent of the Lemon/Lime and it doesn't seem to be as moisturizing as it was. I bought a can of the new stuff (newer style label) a few days ago and was quite disappointed.

Go with Billy Jealousy Hydroplane.

When Im pressed for time and have to skip out on the fun that is the ritual of whipping up a good lather and the rest of the prep for a proper shave, I just use Billy Jealousy Hydroplane and massage it into my face and lubricate it enough to wear its super slick.

It gets the job done and it protects quite well.

If I HAD to pick one. I'd go with the Aveeno shave gel. When I shaved with a cartridge razor, this definitely minimized razor burn and ingrown hairs. All of my friends that continue to cartridge shave use this brand. They make two types I believe. 'Theraputic' and 'Sensitive'. I used to alternate between the two. I liked the scent of the one with the navy blue cap better.

Prior to learning the ways of the wetshave I used Nivea for Men which is a good product obviously not to the standard of a good shaving soap/cream but I think it's one of the best canned goo's.
I would say either the sensitive or replenishing version.

Nivea is good stuff--------even without a brush. I've said this a million times on here, but the newer guys may not know it yet!

I met old wet shaver once in Excaliber store. He found a tube of Nivea shave cream in Kuwait recently(I am going to try it one day). Found it was pretty good stuff. But for substitute, using Gillette Foamy or Barbolsol is ok. Its better then gel. I think going with Kiss My Face Moisture Shave(KMF) is your best bet.

Another good option would be a tube of Godrej cream. You might even be able to find it locally in a store that carries food and sundries from India.

Trev, speaking of Cremo, let me know if you want to try it...I have a mostly full tube I don't use, and I gave it to the wife. She tried it on her legs, but she could care less what she uses. I'll just send it your way if you want it.

Don't use pressurized goo, instead grab a brushless cream like someone suggested, or a shaving stick. My travel setup is Mama Bear shave stick + travel brush that stows itself in handle. But I could easily trade both items for a squeeze-tube of Kiss My Face cream. No goo!:tongue_sm

If you have to go back to cartridges/disposables, try the Bic yellow-handled "Sensitive" ones. Since finding these my Fusions are completely banned even from travel shaves.

I have just come back to de shaving after years in the wildeness and the only 1 i can say was any good for me was bald guyz, in fact so good i still use it now in my de shaving cream rotation even though its not a cream but a gel from a plastic tube, brill stuff:001_rolle
