can you wet shave and leave stubble?

Hi all,

I have a double edged merkur razor, but my wife and I both prefer me with a bit of stubble. I was going to buy a beard trimmer, but before I go over to the dark side, I was wondering if there is a way to wet shave and leave may 0.4/0.5mm of stubble?

Thanks

Daven

I find one pass doesn't always leave the hair one length all over though (probably my technique), I was thinking of something like a merkur futur that has adjustable length settings.

Why not just get a slim adjustable if you want an adjustable. It'll fit under your nose easier.

The Merkur razors are pretty aggressive. If you want to leave more hair on your face you'd probably be better off with something much milder. A Slim set on 1 might be your best bet.

I have a Slim and a Mergress and the Slim is at least (for me) 2-3 numbers milder. I've never used one, but I think the Futur might be even more aggressive than the Mergress.

Try the one pass but I wouldn't get my hopes up. My wife prefers me with some stubble and if we are all on the same page as far as what stubble is. Then I still think it will be too much. When I do it I use electric trimmers set on two. Much less and there isn't much too see, just feel. Best of luck though!

And no, the stubbley, rough look doesn't happen often or for very long LOL

I think you would find the Futur is still on the aggressive side even on the low numbers. My Progress turned down to 1 just barely cuts the hair. I don't think it's shave at this setting will be as uniformed as you would like. In my mindset not sure changing the blade gap from the safety bar is the best way to achieve your goal. Seem you would need a razor that would increase the distance between skin & blade only.
I prefer a clean shave but your thought on this intrigues me & I might have to try it. Never tried to leave stubble but have seen lots of sports figures that have that look.
A internet search just turned up "Electrics" like the Conair i-Stubble which is made for just that purpose along with several others.

thanks for all the replies guys, think my best bet is to go with the electric. Will see what santa brings me I guess!

Happy shaving

The purpose of classic shaving is to leave the face smooth, removing the whiskers just at the skin line. In answer to the OP's question, no, one cannot easily wetshave and leave stubble.

Back when Miami Vice was on TV, women went nuts over the look of a two-day growth, but nobody that I knew actually wanted to feel that up against their soft skin!

There are electric devices that can give you exactly what you're looking for . . .

Get an adjustable and use the lowest setting. However, an electric beard trimmer will probably get you closer to what you and your wife want

I find if I just do one pass WTG, I still have significant stubble on my cheek and neck area. So yes, it is possible depending on your beard type.

For me a one-pass WTG is still cleaner than what I think most wives would call "stubble." you'll probably need to skip a day or more. Here's my personal range:
1 day: look like a bum
2-3 days: looks good and deliberate
4 days: maybe I was in the mountains?
5+ days: maybe I was in prison?

So days 2 to 3 are the sweet spot. And after that, a single pass might as well be a full shave in terms of hitting the reset button.

A DE will give you a much closer shave than you are looking for and an adjustable wont give you what you are after. Go electric 100% with an adjustable guard so you can vary the length.
