Can you "check" a razor blade to fly?

I understand you cannot carry on any straight razors or even razor blades.

But if my shaving kit is in a checked bag, and my kit contains a razor w/ blade, is that OK? Or will that be viewed as a weapon and razor confiscated?

Shaving blades of any sort (straight, de, se) are fine so long as they ARE CHECKED. (They are forbidden in carry on.)

They let people check guns and rifles so no worries about the razors. By the way, TSA cannot confiscate anything. If they don't allow something through security or on the plane, they'll give you an opportunity to give it to a friend or put it in your car, etc. If none of those options work, then they give you the option to throw it away.

Of course if you have something illegal, then they'll call airport police who'll confiscate you and your stuff

Blades are fine in checked baggage. Unless someone wants to steal them, of course. The Los Angeles airport is notorious for having electronics, cameras, jewelry, etc. going "missing" from checked bags.

I fly often enough out of Newark, NJ which in my opinion is THE WORST AIRPORT in America! Anywhere else HAS to be better (and I have found usually are.) Don't get me started on the NY/NJ Port Authority Police who run the place.... :thumbdown

I see you've never flown out of Philly.

Actually I do fly out'a PHL too often enough. I actually LIKE Philly compared to Newark even though Philly is an extra 15 minutes drive from where I live. Lately I've been booking Southwest and they don't fly Newark so Philly it is. Can't beat Southwest IMHO for price and/ or service either. In Newark, it's normally Continental for me.

This brings to mind the nicknames we had for Newark and Philly when I worked at the airlines: "Sewark" and "Filthadelphia". Glad I don't have to fly into either of those airports anymore!!

I fly all the time and never had in issue with blades in checked baggage. From my understanding, it's perfectly permissible to carry blades in checked baggage. Heck, I even put a folding knife in my checked baggage.

So the best thing to do is check your blades and carry your razor on board.

Yep.

Once I travelled interstate and had my superspeed in my carry on luggage. The security guy took my superspeed and checked to see if it still contained a blade.
