Can Aftershave Splashes irritate?

I've been trying to find out what is irritating my skin after I shave.

I shaved several days without applying any aftershave and everything was good.

Today after I shaved I applied some clubman vanilla and about a half an hour later my chin was irritated?

Has anyone else experienced this with an aftershave splash?

Yes of course, the high alcohol content can be irritating... of course not to everyone but definitely for some people.

If it irritates you, then try an alcohol free ASB or non-alcohol witch hazel.

You might be allergic / sensitive to some of the ingredients - vanilla sounds pretty strong, it might not agree with your skin.

+1 Alcohol splashes burn for a few seconds only when applied. If you have irritation half an hour later it cannot be the alcohol content. I suggest trying something different.

Try something without alchol to see if that is the culprate.

Witch hazel (Thayers scented) might be a good alternative. I can find it at several shops local to me so call around (some health food stores might be a good starting point). Big box and mom and pop pharmacies (along with wally world) will have unscented witch hazel if you can't find scented ones.

If you find that you no longer get irritation using witch hazel you can then doctor it up and "roll your own" aftershave. I have done this but I like the "pre-made" stuff enough that I don't bother making my own any longer.

I have found Clubman causes me crazy itching on my neck. Can't use it any more. This wasn't the case when I first started using it -- at least I think it wasn't. I might have not located the source of the itching/irritation early on. but now I'm sure. I "scrubbed" with a Thayer's soaked cotton ball and it was ok. But that's a two-step process I'd rather not have to rely on. (And I had mixed feelings about the Clubman scent in general, truth be told....)

I prefer alcohol-based splashes and others don't give me a problem. Probably just a particular fragrance ingredient.

My only problem is that my preferred splashes cost twice as much +.
