Calphalon brush

I found this today in a second hand store. It's a Calphalon boar shave brush. The handle is cast iron and hollow, and the knot is held in by a set screw. Has anyone ever heard of these brushes? A google search turned up nothing.

The first thing I did was wash it and use it with some Williams. It makes great lather.

Neat.

Are you sure it isn't some sort of pasty brush or some other culinary device? Alton Brown uses shave brushes in the kitchen so turn about is fair play.

edit- the mystery has been solved.

The knot works as is on a williams puck very well. I just have to be very careful using it, it is quite heavy and it would be easy to chip a bowl. I'll try it on my face tonight, and see how it feels. However, a bigger knot would look a lot better.

The reason I went in there is because a few weeks ago they had an aluminum handle rubberset that I wanted to get this time around. But that one was gone.

I may be wrong, but I'd venture to guess that any hair meant to be used with food will probably be supremely scratchy on your face. I wouldn't think it'd be pleasant to use.
