C&E sienna

Hi all,

I've got the chance to purchase some sienna soap and aftershave balm for $15 and wondered if anyone had any opinions / reviews of this soap?

If $15 is the price for a soap puck and the AS Balm together, then grab it. In my experience, the C&E soaps are ok- nicely scented but only middle-of-the-pack performance-wise and this way you are able to grab one to test for not a lot of money. In any case, you will probably enjoy the Balm.

I've worked through a puck of C&E soap before -- I agree with the above posters who mentioned that the performance was so-so compared to some of the other options out there. I've never tried the balm. If you dig the scent of Sienna, it sounds like the balm + soap combo would be a nice deal for $15.

Thanks guys I'm gonna go and pick them up tomorrow.
The $15 was for the soap and the balm so it's a bit of a bargain at that price.

Another fan here, but a word of caution. I seem to recall that the supplier in England went bust. I also have the new Lime scent soap, presumably from a new supplier and I haven't yet got a satisfactory lather from it. My suspicion is that old stock will be very good, but new supplies not so much. Perhaps an England based member can add something.

That's interesting as i've just had my first shave with the Sienna soap, i love the scent but nit satisfied with the lather but maybe its my technique.
The aftershave balm smells awesome too!

ive just had my third shave with this soap and it definitely lather as well as TOBS sandalwood, the lather is very thin and airy no matter how much soap i load into my brus by the second pass i have to build the lather again, any ideas?

In my opinion is the Sienna soap better than the Trumper soaps I've tried. I would say on par with TOBS soap but behind DR Harris. For the money you spent you got a bargain. Congratulations!

I would really dig a Sienna a/s splash.

Although I have never had any complaints about Sienna Soap's performance, I'll have to try mixing it with Valobra stick...

Sounds like a very good deal. I went through a Sienna and it was OK. The lather evaporated a little sooner than some other soaps.

I had the same problem with a C&E west indian lime, could not get a decent lather, very airy and weak, dissappearing before my eyes, even after loading until my wrist ached! I either had a bad batch or was missing something, although I've lathered a variety of soaps and creams and never struck anything like it before.

If the lather doesn't improve, they make a good shower soap :)

I tried using the Sienna again this morning and I've come to the conclusion that it's not for me!

im lathering it the same way as all of my other soaps which lather beautifully but this lather from Sienna is weak and thin and I don't even get a single pass and it's thinned on my face so much that it's unusable.

i would really like to like this soap but it's performance so far has been abysmal, has anyone else had this experience with Sienna or C&E soaps?

I use C&E Sandalwood occasionally and initially had a very similar experience - difficulty getting good lather. I found that after using it for 3-4 days in a row, it seemed to soften up and produced a very nice lather, easily enough for 2 passes, without much effort. You might want to put enough water on the puck to cover the top surface while you're showering, dump any excess water prior to loading your brush, and then loading the brush heavily. That technique worked for me. Also, I noticed that it performed quite differently using softened water as compared to my hard water right out of the faucet. Good luck.

When I find a soap that lathers only so-so, but has a great strong scent, I often use an unscented cream mixed in to kick the lather into a great place. KMF is my usual preferred cream for this. One pump added in will do, it's easy to get, and reasonably priced enough.

I'm probably in the minority but I find the scent of Sienna to be to pungent for my tastes, and don't have a very sensitive nose. It's not to Mama Bears level of intensity, but close. The lather quality I find to be average. When I get around to taking pictures of it and some other soaps I plan to get rid of, I'll sell it.
