As many here might know, I'm a sandalwood "purist", and in the past I've criticized fragrances that have too little of the scent that they're named after. But y'know what? I think C&E's Sandalwood (2004 formulation; I haven't smelled the original) is quite awesome.
It's not an austere sandalwood along the lines of Tam Dao. It doesn't have the creaminess and authenticity of Nandita. But like many of the C&E offerings, it's pure class. Deep, soapy, woody, somewhat leafy, exquisitely warm and spicy. And best of all,the smokiness of the vetiver does NOT overwhelm the composition. It's perfectly restrained, and works with the cedar and spices. I can smell the sandalwood element (especially in the drydown), but I don't think it's based off Mysore sandalwood, maybe Australian or Indonesian. But that doesn't matter. It's just a beautiful, classy frag. Heck, even the design on the box is great. I wish I knew the name of the artwork.
Any other fans?
