C.E. Bigelow Shave Cream

R

rodeo

Even though I shaved this morning I wanted to try out my newly bought shave cream for the first time so I lathered up (in a bowl) and just shaved again for S&G.

I gotta say I'm not overly fond of the fragrance of this shave cream, and here I am with 4 large tubes of the stuff.... I think I may lean heavily on my soaps..

Was gonna list em here in the buy and sell but I'm not a registered member long enough so I will sell them off on ebay instead..

I know how you feel. The first time I used C.O. Bigelow, I wasn't too fond of the scent, but the more I used it, the more I enjoyed it. I am sure that you can find someone to take the tubes off your hands if you decide to get rid of them.

I find the Eucalyptus cooling and refreshing. The scent is a bit sweeter than what Id like but still a nice sensation overall.

Bigelow's cream was the first thing I lathered with when I started wet-shaving about 2.5 years ago. At the time, I didn't think that shaving got any better than that, because I didn't have anything to compare it to.

It fell by the wayside after a few months as I gathered more software, and I haven't touched it in about 2 years.

But its making a resurgence in my shave-den lately, as I try to cope with the miserably hot weather we've been having. I've purchased the whole range of Proraso products, and find it really hits the spot when it comes to a really relaxing shave after a hot day at work.

Here's something you might want to try, just for S&G ... last week, I got a phone call as I was just finishing up lathering, but before I had started to shave. I answered the phone, and left the lather on while I talked for a half hour. Would you believe, even though it dried out on me, that the lather was still producing its icy-cold menthol effect after 30 minutes?

When I finished the call, I just dipped my brush tips in water and got the lather fluffed up again, and proceeded to shave as normal. And I got one of the best shaves I'd had in a long time. Really smooth, irritation free, and it lasted a good 36 hours before I had to shave again.

I don't really get that cooling feeling everyone else seems to have. But its cheap and more importantly, readily available. Definitely my go-to cream :thumbup1:

Like you, I stocked up on a few tubes of C.E.Bigelow SC as a Proraso surrogate.. six tubes in total.

Frankly, it isn't the scent that is a fail for me, it's the lather.. doesn't mix well with my water/technique/brush/bowl... I am going to try a few drops of glycerin and if that still doesn't get my attention the lot is off to a buddy who loves the stuff.

I wonder if the Proraso green tub responds the same..

I only tried it once (once is ernough for the smell) and yea, I too didn't get a spectacular lather either. I have already received better results with several soaps and I enjoy working with the soaps anyway for a variety of scents etc.
I currently have my excess tubes listed on ebay. I'll keep the one open tube that I started.

Smell is normally a subjective thing. COB's smell is fine with me - but I'm not too much of a "smell" guy. Do get a great lather, however.

Gonna land on the plus side of this discussion. I started using Bigelow about a month ago and I like the smell, thick lather and absolutely LOVE the cooling effect.

I too bought a lot of this stuff as it was on sale at 75% off. It works well but I am not too fond of the smell. I would much rather use my EJ Sea Buckthorn.

I missed the sale but bought a tube yesterday. Looking forward to trying it soon.
That sale, or something similar, will be back.

I missed the sale also. Even though I was in a B&BW twice during the sale, I resisted the temptation to buy, because I have so many other soaps and creams already.

I did manage to score four bottles of #1200 ASB from an eBay vendor, though. About $34 shipped, it was quite a deal!

Next time the sale comes around, I think I'll get some more cream in the travel sizes. That will come in handy.

I purchased a lot of this stuff on sale and now I am wondering about it's shelf life. If kept in a dark cool place would you say it should last 2 yrs ?
