What's new

Bye Bye Feather

For me at least. I received a sampler with some Feather blades when I got into DE shaving. When I first used them I was inexperienced and got a poor shave. So I blamed it on inexperience. Now when I shave with them, the first shave is marvelous. Shaved with a new one last night and it was great. Shaved with the same blade today and got far more and far worse cuts and more razor burn than my first shave with a straight.

For me, they are a "one shave blade". And for the cost, are definitely not worth it.

So, farewell, elsewhere, Feather. Just not in my shave den.

Sincerely,

Jake

I ordered a pack for my tech when I acquired since that was the "hot" setup. Did fairly well, but the tech is pretty mild even with a feather in it.

Tried it in my merkur 38c and wasn't all that impressed. I was happier with derby and super iridiums. The feathers are sharp, but I dont find them to be a smooth cutter like the other two. I'll keep what I have for the tech but I dont plan on buying more for any of my other razors.

Feathers are still my favorite blade. Best set up for me is a feather in my Red Tip. This is just another example that proves the old adage, YMMV. :biggrin1:

Blade samplers are pretty much standard issue now for newbies.
There are so many blades out there you need to try.
I only bought one sampler and stopped when I hit the Feathers.
I get the best shaves from them.
But as I've come along all these years, I figure it's time to buy a sampler again and try out new things.

Excellent advice. For example, I have yet to try the Super Iridiums and a couple of other blades. I'll probably seek out a sampler for that purpose, even though I've been wet shaving for quite a while now.

To me, they seem to match very well. The Tech clogs up with soap quickly so I have to rinse frequently + I maybe have to do one extra pass due to the mildness. But the results have been satisfying with little irritation. (I seem to have a pretty sensitive neck area.)

I've been using Feathers for the better part of a year. On a lark I ordered a pack of Super Iridiums. So much smoother! I think I'm saying bye bye to Feathers, as well.

I've been using the Feathers and Super Iridiums too. I tried around 5-6 other kinds of blades but haven't had an aha moment with them. I'm trying some Kai blades now that I got from another member and they seem to be pretty nice too.

I'm trying to settle down on RAD, have a few brushes, and been really working on prep and technique too. The blades will probably be the last variable that I nail down.

I suppose Super Iridiums would perhaps suit sensitive skin better than Feathers but how does Kai compare to these two in sharpness/smoothness?

I think I'll try some Super Iridiums or Kais next unless I manage to get some Personna Prep Blades shipped here to Europe.

I will take all you have. They treat me extremely well and they are all I use.Very smooth and no nicks or cuts at all.

Paul

Sorry, but that was the last blade of the sample. If I had more I'd send them your way. I just kept thinking that maybe the next time using the feathers would be better. But apparently it wasn't meant to be.

Kais are a smidge less sharp/smooth for me.

As I get more shaves under my "chin", I have just begun to appreciate the difference in different brand.

That said, I now regret selling my Feather stock, I thought it was too sharp.

I think one should get a sample pack, pick the one(s) you like, get a 6 month supply and revisit the sample pack, maybe the 2nd time around you will re-rate your first impression.
