The brushes are beautiful. I emailed the store owner - he says he onlyuses 24mm knots 67mm loft. According to this forum, that's a large knot --

The 67mm loft appears to be off the scale - maybe he meant 57mm, but that's still a very high loft http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthr...831#post850831

My question - if I use soap, not cream, and I have a medium face, will this brush suit my needs? I had been thinking I needed something in a 20-23mm knot, 45-50mm loft. I'm relatively new to DE shaving (6 months), but am upgrading from my Art of Shaving $25 badger brush. Any advice?

While I think its great to support artisans, you can get a much better brush for $95 imo.

The brush listed certainly has a nice handle. Good luck.

Can you make a suggestion, please? I thought $95 was on the low end, actually. If there are better options, please let me know.

Thanks!

Beautiful brush. It is obviously very well crafted, and the ironwood is not only beautiful, but tough. My largest concern would be the knot, including the gluing, and the size (as you said, it is pretty darn big). I'd say it is probably worth what he is asking, after materiels, time, effort, and an obvious profit (a man's gotta eat).

However, personally, I can't fathom paying $107 for a brush. Your handle will likely get wet eventually and be ruined (read the review page for this information), and if you're unsure about knot size, err on the side of caution, as you probably won't be able to recoup most of your costs on the BST should you decide it's too big. Get a quality boar, and save yourself the potential greif and $75 (aka 3 tubs of Trumpers!)

I would suggest looking into a Shavemac, Rooney, or Saville Row in the $100.00 range. Not that the handle isn't nice looking, the quality of that knot is unknown. The brushes I mentioned are all recommended here at B&B and reviews can be found in the reviews section here on all three manufacturers. Good Luck and Welcome to B&B!!
