Brush won't pick up soap

I've had a silver tip badger since I started wet shaving a couple years ago. Recently I feel like the brush has stopped absorbing or picking up soap. I usually use soft soap/ hard cream, and mostly the soap just spills onto the sides of the container and I have to use my fingers to put it on my face. If I reduce water nothing happens.

Is is it possible with age that the badger brush can have this issue?

If you aren't already, make sure to soak your puck in water to soften it up a bit. This makes all the difference in the world. Drain the water and then load.

Did you shampoo and condition your badger hair? Are your soaps dried out?

+2. I do not have particular hard water but I do notice a significant difference in how my brushes lather up soaps once I have given them a nice cleaning treatment. I use Borax.
