What's new

brush weight / heft

Hi all, I'm new to the world of wet shaving and haven't made my brush purchase yet, but I had a question to ask. Are there any pros / cons to having a heavier or lighter brush? For those with multiple brushes, does brush weight affect your choice of "favorite" brush?

When it comes to weight the only benefit i can think of is a heavy handled brush is less likely to tip over and fall in the sink while one is shaving.I recently re did a klenso brush and decided to give it a little weight by sticking about 2 bucks in quarters inside. It's a chunk and feels good.It doesn't tip over to easy but all I have to compare it to is a long light handled brush that'll tip over if you look at it funny so it rests in a bowl between passes.

In my opinion, the weight/heft of a brush handle has very little to do with performance. I do prefer a brush handle with a bit of heft to it, because it feels like a finely crafted tool rather than a cheap piece of plastic crap. I have two boars brushes, both of which produces excellent results in the lather department, but the cheap plastic handles just don't do it for me.

I like mine with a bit of heft. I recently redid an old EverReady. Before it had a hollow handle and now an epoxy filled handle....I much prefer the way it feels now with a few extra grams.
