Brush on a budget

Looking for a decent boar brush under $10. I'm wanting to get my friend set up with a brush and a couple pucks of Sterling. He is not a wet shaver yet, so I'm not wanting to spend a lot, but want to make sure he gets a good experience. I know Omega makes a couple under $10. I use a Semogue 1305 - great brush and good price, but I'm on a bit of a budget for this project- looking for something even less.

Check out the Semogue 1470. It's the least expensive Semogue boar, but excellent quality and super performer. There are Omegas that are even less. Check out Shoebox Shave Shop for an excellent selection of the lowest priced Omega.

You can also get the Van Der Hagen boar brush for like $8 at Walgreens or CVS, but I don't know how they compare to others. My brother has one and his never stopped shedding, whereas mine shed only two hairs, then stayed steady and has done well for me so it may or may not be worth it, I guess. You could also look on the board here and find a better quality used brush.

I've also had good luck with the Van Der Hagen brush. Afaik mine has never shed a single hair. You also get a puck of VDH soap and a bowl for that $ 8+change. I also bought a Body Shop synthetic at one of their stores for $12. My first impression was that I liked the VDH brush better, but now I'm getting used to the synthetic and liking it.

Omega Pro, like +5 or something by now. That thing will hold its own against badgers costing 20X the price...

+1 on the Omega pro. If you want to go smaller, there are various other Omega's such as the 10065, 10066, etc. My 10066 from Connaught cost a bit more than $10 delivered. It probably costs about the same at Shoebox.

+6 to the Omega Pro. I have a 1305 and an Omega Pro, and both are great, though different. The Omega is softer than the Semogue once broken in.

Thanks for the tip. I'll take a flyer on this. I was looking for a brush for traveling. At this price I won't cry if luggage goes among the missing.

I got started with a Omega 10049 for $9 + s/h. Vintagescent.com will have the cheapest Semogue brushes online, but shipping takes awhile from Europe. Also google for a discount code.

I have the Omega Pro 49, the B&B Essential Boar from Omega, and the Omega 11047 mixed boar/badger.

I was going to say the Ecotools kabuki at $5, but I may have to concede to the overwhelming support of the Omega.

I am debating trying the Omega BnB brush from west coast shaving when it comes out for $20 - purple!!!

The cheapest (good) boars are from omega.
For big knots: 48, 49, 83, etc
Medium knots: 10066, 10065, etc
smaller: 10275

smaller still: omega midget.
