Brush grip, boar vs badger

I just made an observation with my shave today. I am into the Tabactober, and decided to use my original boar brush, the famed VDH boar from Rite Aid. I usually use either my Shavemac 177 super, or my C & E BBB when I shave. The boar usually sits under the sink, alone and lonely. Brought out the Blue Boar, and loaded up with Tabac. First pass was fine, then the second pass was terrible. Couldn't get much more than soapy watery lather, which never happens with Tabac and me. For the third pass, I changed grip, and just held the VDH by the handle. I usually face lather with my fingers on the bristles, as Mantic advises. When I pushed the boar brush with the handle, the lather behaved as usual. Just wondering if anyone else changes their grip with boar vs badger brushes?

I only grip by the handle, regardless of which brush I am using. If I want to squeeze some lather out of the brush I press the side of the bristles against my chin and bend the bristles until the desired amount comes out and then work it around where I need it.

I just learned a new trick, thanks kindly.
