Brush drying question

My new brush has arrived and want to take very good care of it. With that in mind, I want to know if its ok to simply lay the brush after rinsing clean and drying with the handle of the brush on the rim of my bowl with the hair resting on the bowl??? I dont have a stand but i want to leave it upside down. just worried over time the pressure from the bowl on the hair might damage the hair.

I think your instincts are correct, that the optimum way to care for the brush is to hang it upside down. You can get a plastic stand for a few dollars that will do just fine.

I suspect it would be fine to leave it in the bowl, but your brush will dry just fine by resting it on the base of the handle. It will dry well and will not damage your brush.

A careful scientific study somewhere on the forum has revealed no measurable difference in drying between standing the brush normally and hanging it. laying it on it's side will push the hairs together and make it dry more slowly and unevenly.

Stand it up on its base to dry. That's how my brushes are stored between uses. I'd be worried that drying it in the bowl would give the knot that "windswept" look you see in vintage brush knots.

+1 definitely NOT laying it on its side.

Putting a brush against anything will eventually deform the bristles and make the brush unpleasant to use.

Stand it on the handle. that is why it is flat on the bottom.

If you want to "hang" it, get either a plastic stand as mentioned or get a chrome or gold plated Omega brush stand (little more sexy than plastic).

Several brush manufactures suggest hanging the brush upside down to dry. Thats the only reason I do it. Really its personal preference and I believe either way works just fine!

This is all good to hear. I was alwys told they HAD to be upside down to keep moisture from running back into the handle. And to that I always thought that if I give the brush a good towel dry its not THAT much moisture in the bristles at all.

Untill this week I only had one brush and a stand. So no worries. But now I have a second. Its good to hear they can be dried and then set on their base to air dry.

GOOD INFO!
