Brush Cleaning

Sometimes after a shave I have a significant amount of cream (Bigelow and KMF) still on my brush. Should I leave the cream on the brush and use it for the next shave? Will it work? Is it bad for my badger brush?

I leave the water running after I rinse my face and clean my brush out. I give it a few firm shakes and then lightly circle it on a towel to dry it. Then it goes in the brush stand to fully dry.

Except for leaving cream on the brush for several hours to break-in a new brush, I do this.

Interesting video. Seems like I've been doing it properly without ever having seen it, but I have done a lot of painting. My cleaning differs from the video in that I don't wipe the brush on a towel but I do shake it a bit more.

I see the soap scum build up on my razor and mixing bowl even after thorough and frequent rinsings after each shave. Even though I can't see it, I gotta believe it's affecting my vulfix as well. Would the dishwasher be too harsh for it? Anybody tried barbicide?

Do not put your brush in the dish washer. You will surely regret that.

Barbicide is a sanitizer, not a cleaner.

I have a 25+ year old brush that I have never performed any sort of cleaning on. I just rinse it and put it away to dry, don't even bother to towel it. It still looks just fine and performs just fine. I don't think that soap scum sticks to hair like it does hard surfaces.

If the soap scum bothers you, pour some dish detergent on the brush and lather that up, wash it out, and then soak the brush in a four parts water to one part vinegar solution for a minute or two. Stir to agitate.

Thoroughly rinse the brush under warm water after every shave. Squeeze, shake, and then dry in a towel. I invert the brush in a stand afterwards to fully dry but that seems to be a question of debate.

I've never done anything except rinse the brush until the there are no soap bubbles in the brush and then squeeze it out in my hand and give it a shake. I stand it up or now hang it up and let it dry.

I have worn out some brushes over 50 years, but none ever seemed to need additional cleaning, except to get the initial "funk" out of some brushes.
