Bruno Magli dress shoes

how do these rate in terms of quality when compared to Alden or Allen Edmonds? the price point for some of their shoes seems on pair with Alden and AE but how do they hold up with regular wear?

They were certainly made famous by O.J. Simpson who apparently wore them at one time. I am sure that they are decent quality and probably quite expensive.

Better than Allen Edmonds IMO but then these are true handmade Italian shoes. The leather is above average and the fit and shape is true European. Not as good as Ferragamo or Testoni though.

They are priced the same as Allen Edmonds at Nordstrom's Last Chance for a reason...

I do not like them better than AE. Returned a couple pairs to Nordstroms.

I would not compare the Maglis to either Allen Edmunds or Alden, only because of the differences in styling and construction. The Maglis are Italian construction, with typically thinner soles, different welting and more contemporary style and presentation, whereas the AE and Alden are Classic English construction, with a typically Goodyear welts and more classic looking designs.

Two completely different types of shoes. All quite excellent.

You realize Allen Edmonds are also "handmade". I own a pair of Ferragamo's and I would not say they are better quality than AE. They just build them differently. The Ferragamo's have a more modern shape and are very soft, but they also have a harder (less comfortable sole...possibly a shank).

For the record you can actually get handmade Italian shoes that are sold under the Allen Edmonds name. They are part of the "Seven" line. I just bought a pair. Again, not better than AE's stuff out of Port Washington, just different.

It depends what you wear with them. I wear plenty of high-end Armani, Santorelli, Zanella slacks and Armani, Canali, Zegna dress shirts and the AE's look hideous next to them. Magli, Ferragamo, Testoni, Gucci all finish them off nicely, as they should. But then again, my shirts and pants cost more than most people's shoes, so what would I know?

I still have a pair of Ferragamos that I bought in 1990. I have had them resoled but they still look good.

I am interested in knowing what qualities the Bruno Maglis have that the AE/Aldens do not that makes the Magli supposedly a better made shoe.

I can think of none.

I am interested to know why someone would aesthetically prefer an Allen Edmonds shoe to a Bruno Magli shoe.

I cannot think of one.

c'mon guys, let's keep this clean. I don't want this to turn into a 'my shoe is better than your shoe' debate. I was simply asking about the quality of bruno magli shoes because they have similar price points to AE and Alden and they look nice.

Anglophilia.

I think they look similar enough that I can wear either in the same style. Ie captoe balmoral.

Then you should know you can do much better than Allen Edmonds by going with Cheaney or Edward Green.

While I would certainly prefer those shoes over my AEs. I would also prefer recraftable Santonis. I dunno about Ferragamos, some of them are poorly constructed. Maybe their higher end line. Same goes with Santoni, their rubber soled shoes are nice to look at, but you can't resole them.

I digress. All of those shoes are hundreds more than Allen Edmonds. In fact, Alden is technically a hundred or so more than AE. Why? Because you can pretty much always get an AE second for ~%25 off. Aldens never go on sale. Again I digress.

All that said, I haven't seen a Magli shoe thats recraftable for under $400. In fact, I haven't even seen a Magli shoe thats recraftable. Of course, I only get to see what Nordstroms carries; Neiman doesn't carry Magli here.
