Broken down cream by 2nd pass

I have been bowl lathering for most of this year. However, one thing that remains pretty constant is that by the time I lather for a 2nd pass, the cream in my bowl has broken down, having become much thinner and more watery. This seems to happen no matter how much cream I put in the bowl when making the lather.

Any idea why this happens?

The only thing I can think of is that I shave in the shower, and maybe the lather is soaking up water between passes.

BrianEsq,

How hot of a shower are you taking? The steam could be breaking down the lather from all the steam in the air. Also what type of bowl are you talking about? I started out using a glass bowl which was very very smooth to the touch. Now I am using a 1977 mug which is kind of ruff so the brush and the cream mesh well and form a more solid lather IMHO.

Not too hot, I think. I've tried a few different bowls - 2 large coffee mugs, and now using more of a kitchen bowl.

I was having the same problem. Lather a little thin, razor bumps, etc. I chucked the bowl and started hand lathering. I use 1/3 each time I lather(for 3 passes but usually dont need it just add a little more water to the first "1/3 snurdle"). Not only are my shaves better, but Im saving more Cream/Soap!:thumbup1: Plus maybe the oil from my hand helps out with the lube?
