Brilliant red DE razor

A bright red case containing a red Bakelite DE razor, with the name of "Brilliant" on the end of the handle and underside of the head assembly.
Never saw that brand before. Nice set -- and an unusual color for me for a razor. May have been designed for the interior decorator who
wanted to offer something in red for the home owner who has a colorful bathroom.

So if you also have a red -- or any other unusually colorful razor, post here or on your own thread. Will be interesteing to see the spectrum of colors available in the world of traditional shavers.

I have a newer model Brillant Deluxe cased with paperwork.

It's adjustable.

I'll get some pics up here today. It's black and red.

Any other colored razor I have is from a modification I made. :001_cool:

There may have been more than one Brilliant, then.

From Wait's Compendium...
"Brilliant
Metropolitan Safety Razor Blade Co. Inc.
154 Nassau St. New York. NY.
TM first used 1 Feb 1929 for safety razors and safety razor blades. TM filed 26 Feb 1929."

The picture has a little image of a gem sparkling which is not quite the same as the gem on the razor in this thread.

Also, does that razor say "Brilliant", or "Brillant"

Oh, if you're looking for unusually colorful razors, I have one to show you.
I know nothing about this one except that it must have been made at some point after the Eclipse, because it's a rather obvious remake of that head style. It sports a multicolored catalin handle.

Wow -- you are absolutely correct. I wanted it to say "Brilliant" but it is "Brillant". And it's great to see others as well as other colorful razors. Particularly loved yours Amish!

Heh. I originally read it as 'Brilliant' too, and it wasn't until I started staring at the logo trying to see if it was similar to the one in Wait's that I realized it looked like it was spelled differently.

After receiving my Deluxe, I did some online research and quickly determined the item I had was a Brillant.

I just thought your spell check had gotten the best of you.

The Brillant shown on the First Picture seems to be produced prewar, i would date it ca. 1939.
The Brillant (later in the GDR ERFA Brillant) was a direct competitor of the non-adjustable Merkur Progress Razors with a very similar geometry.
Especially the Underplate with the Bar Guard was later used with the ERFA Brillant (but only in Plastic or Zinc Alloy, not with Bakelite), using a
variety of different Handles, mostly Aluminium (round or hexagonal).
The Company that produced the Brillant TM Razors Preware seems to be unknown, its possible that Schlüssler or Golf (Berlin) produced it prewar,
but the Company that produced must have been on East German Territory before WW2 just because the GDR copied only Razors made by producers
on east German Territory.

Yes thats Right, the GDR Razors under the Brilliant Brand had been produced in Eisleben in two different combinats,
but the Production Company and Location where the Origin Version was produced is still unclear.
