Brewmeister Snake Venom – The World`s Strongest Beer

WOW:cursing:

Think that 1
0% double IPA is strong? Snake Venom, from Scottish brewery, Brewmeister, clocks in at a stomach-burning 67% ABV. Snatching the title for the world’s strongest beer, the brew is made with smoked peat malt (how Scottish of them) and both Champagne yeast and ale yeast. Now, whether it is technically a beer (the freeze concentration used to up the alcohol content pushes it more in the realm of hard alcohol) is up for debate, but it does outdo the 65% beer Brewmeister made back in 2012 that had held the championship belt.

Nope. Not beer.
That's a Malt liquor like Old English 800 or Colt 45.
134 proof? I have no interest in trying it.

Wow that sounds like strong stuff! I think the strongest beer I've ever had is Sam Adams Triple Bock which is 17.5% IIRC and this is stronger than what I consider my most formidable scotch, Glenlivet Nadurra at 57%. Crazy!

Well techincally its NOT malt liquor. You are doing this beer a HUGe injustice comparing it to the crappy higher proof "malt liquors" like Colt 45. They are only labeled that because until recently, most states had a law where anything labeled beer couldn't be over 5.5% ABV. Thats been lifted in all but a few states now. Also, Eisbock is a legitimate style of beer. it is freeze concentrated Bock or Dopplebock (just not concentrated to such a high degree).

I will say that this craze is getting a little out of hand. I'd honestly be interested in seeing if this beer tastes any good, or if they are just doing it for the marketing sensation. Anyone can freeze concentrate a beer, but seeing the vision through so that the final concentrated beer actually tastes good is an entirely different thing. Freeze concentrating beer amplifies flavors a lot differently than distilling does. Also, peat malt in a beer is completely disgusting IMO. Something with the interaction of the yeast esters and the peat just tastes terrible. A brewer must use a VERY light hand when using any smoked malt, much less peat malt.

One interesting side note - Samuel Adams Utopias which usually clocks in the 28ish% range is the strongest naturally fermented beer. They specially developed a strain of yeast that could ferment a beer that high without dying. Thats really what I call impressive.

Well put Edcculus. I must admit I would be curious to try it, but would not worry about going out of my way to get it.

I wonder how much that bomber costs?

I am not curious to try this in the least. I had a sample of Tactical Nuclear Penguin a few months ago that has turned me off the ultra-high power ice distilled beers. If you want a superpowered drink, just have a shot of whiskey, you will be doing your palate a favour.
