Breakthrough!

No pressure. A phrase that has given me a week long migraine trying to understand what the hell it means. Tonight, I finally got it! And I got the best shave so far in my first week of DE. Got the stupidest grin on right now.

Areas on my neck that seemed impossible were smooth and close and comfortable. Freaking great.

That along with proper angle. Also PREP PREP PREP...... As you go along you will reach more milestones. Good Luck and Happy Shaves !!!

Thank you Sir, I think I have developed a good routine, just could not for the life of me unlearn the habit of pressuring he blade to the skin. When I finally got it last night it was a revelation today to say the least.

Pressure is one of the most difficult things to master.
You really have to "unlearn" what you do with carts.

Good job. :thumbup1:

Yea, being able to accomplish that is what hooked me on the DE. I was never able to get a good shave on portions of my neck using carts, disposables, or electrics. Once I learned the techniques I could go back to my carts and still get a good shave, if I had to, I guess. It just wouldn't ever be as fun as using a real razor, though.

I'm with you, I can't go back now. I only pray I can remember my technique when i shave next tomorrow.

Excellent!

It's easy to say "no pressure", but it really can take a lot of practical effort to properly understand what that means - but once it clicks, isn't it great?

Ulsterman,
Drat....! you beat me to this post!

I had a great DE shave yesterday too after weeks of struggle. Don't know if this was the prep, angle, or simply the anticipation of holding a new Shavemac silver tip 167 (like a small kid waiting to open his presents)!!

Cheers

I had the same epiphany this morning: no pressure + paying more attention to blade angle gave me my best shave in 3 months of DE wet shaving

One good thing about RAD and using something new is that not all razors shares the same blade and handle angle. The mind doesn't go stubborn about doing one thing for everything unlike carts.

Well done indeed. It's a very difficult lesson for those of us who shaved with cartridges for a long time, but it's a necessary lesson. It took me a good 2 weeks to unlearn 25 years of cartridge shaving.

Unrelated, but how's the weather in Ulster this time of year? I need to spend a couple of days in Downpatrick and Lurgan in a couple of weeks..

I'd have to ask the cousins as I live in California heh.
