Bowls to Accommodate AOS Soaps

I recently got my first Art of Shaving Soap and love the stuff. It's some of the best soap I've found. I have one problem. I'm not a big fan of wooden bowls so got a refill. It doesn't fit well in the bowls I like to use (vintage fire-king milk glass custard bowls). I bought a Chinese rice bowl today and it doesn't fit well in that either. Anyone have any recommendations? Will it fit in a Durance bowl? I've been looking for an excuse to buy one of those.

Hi There,
Pop the soap in microwave for a short while and then sculpt your soap int the choosen bowl.

Don't do that!

Microwaving works for glycerin soaps, not tallow-based or other. You'd end up with a foul-smelling, burnt, unusable mess.

You could, however, mill the soap. Essentially, take a cheese grater to it, then press the shreds into whichever container you choose.

Is the bowl that you have too small (diameter)?

I have one of my AOS soap pucks in a smallish ramekin. To make it fit I used a vegetable peeler to trim down the diameter of the soap. Once I got the size correct I put the "peelings" in the bowl and then dropped the puck on top.

I really don't like milling up the entire puck.

The wife's investment
This sounds like another job for my potter friend. If I give him a soap, I might have another custom bowl in a year or two.

Jeremy,
That's a great idea. I'll trim the edge and put er in one of my Fire-king milk glass bowls. Thanks. Like you, I never liked the idea of milling the whole thing.

I wish I could take credit for the idea, but it is (yet) another thing I have learned at B&B.

Nevertheless, I've seen you post this excellent suggestion more than once, and it is always well received. While the originator of the practice deserves some credit, the fact that you keep sharing it with others is also very valuable. Well done, sir!
