Boots DE Razor

You know I was in my local Boots the other day and it struck me that they no longer had there own long handle 3 pice tech clone on sale. My be thy've puuled the plug on em. Sorry I couldnt help more than that.

Well I bought the Israeli-made Boots own brand DE razor and five blades in their Paignton store a few days ago for £3.69. This was my first ever DE razor and it seems like a really good introduction cos I got a nice shave from it in my inexperienced hands!
The only other DE razor I could find for sale in town was the Wilkinson Sword branded one in a yellow packet with five blades. Is that one any good? For some reason I got the impression that it's not as good as the Boots own.

In boots last week and was amazed to see the three piece in a pack with blades for €5.99 or so. It's a Gillette Tech copy with a black plastic handle. I was going to buy it for a laugh and make a shave video for YouTube as I do. They also had their own brand of Israeli made orange pack of 10 'Personnas' and packs of Wilkies for €5.00 a pop which is a total rip off. All the same, it was great to see a modern pharmacy sell a DE razor and two brands of DE! The times they are a-changing!

i have one of the wilkinson sword razors, the classic i think its called, a very mild razor, a fair bit of weight to it, the handle is metal with plastic covering it, its not bad to be honest, if you need a fast shave, it would be hard to cut yourself with.

Hmm...maybe I could stick the Boots head on the Wilkinson handle and get something decent. As it stands the Boots razor only weighs in at 20g.

as oscroft says its a 2 piece. $razor 2 131.jpgone of the old techs off ebay or something would be a better bet, the brass head ones not the pot metal newish ones, i have had a few of the pot metal ones and they are garbage, the plating is bubbled on them, you dont get that on the older techs.

the gillettes in the pic look exact same as the boots de, i wonder if gillette in india makes them for them.
The razor I bought in Boots does indeed look identical, but is made in Israel.
Still not sure about bothering to get the WS Classic though- since it's so mild would I notice much difference from differently performing blades? What would happen if I put a Feather in it?
Also what's a good weight to aim for? I'm sure it's very subjective (depending on the hands of the shaver etc) but like I said that Boots DE weighs in at 20g, the bakelite 7O'Clock is 30g whereas the Rimei i've got coming from Amazon is 72g which seems like a sizeable difference.

to be fair i only got the wilkinson razor when i was starting de shaving again, when i got a few more razors i never used it again, i gave it to one of my sons, i think if you put a feather blade in it, i t would still be mild, an old tech beats it hands down, and will last a lot longer.

They've got them in the Buchanan Galleries branch in Glasgow. Saw them today.

Sorry to revive an old-ish thread, but they had one left in the Boots on Byres road today and the sales assistant wasn't sure if they would get more in.

But I think that was merely a case of him not actually knowing rather than them not stocking them anymore!
