What's new

Boker dressed in Satin ( wood)

By default I've been picking up str8's as I've been looking for shaving stuff. I knew one day I'd start using them. And I have.
But going over my new additions I decided to re-do some pins on this Bohler that had bone scales. Since the razor was apart I decided to try making a set of scales for it. I had some wood, figured the down side was just putting the Bone back on. So I gave handle making a shot.

I used the Satinwood . I tapered the scales over their length to slenderize the piece instead of having flat slabs on each side and gently put a radius around the edges. I bought the washers that ended up too small for the brass rod I had. So I reamed them out to fit. That was fun.
I used a slice of the Ivory that the razor is sitting on to make the wedge. I thought the white looked nice against the wood grain. That pedestal it's sitting on is actually the original base for the brush stand until it snapped off while on the lathe.
This is also the first time I've tried a CA finish.
I didn't want to go too far in polishing the blade as I didn't want to remove the etching. Now since I have some Satinwood left I think I'll spin up a matching brush for this and build a stand for it. It'll make a nice addition to the Den.
