Gentlemen,

I'm looking for a new boar brush. So many Semogues to choose from. Want something with a fairly short loft and small-medium size knot. Not sure how I feel about wooden handles. Any suggestions?

The two that spring to mind are the 610 and 620 - nicely shaped acrylic handles, 21mm knot, 50mm loft. I have a 610 which I really like, but some people find that a bit soft, and I think the 620 is probably more popular.

620 and 1460 here and I'd give the nod to the 620 both in looks and knot but wooden handles usually means less costly...

If you're trying to stay away from higher lofts, the SOCs and LEs are out of the question (even if they're great..just saying). Probably gotta be the 620.

620 is a great brush. The wooden handles on other models are definitely more fragile, especially the painted ones.

FWIW, I have three Semogues with wooden handles and have had absolutely no problem with them. They look great, and provide a slightly "grippier" surface which I like a lot.

I'd look at a Semogue 1470

So many to choose from, the suggestions above are great and the wooden handles are fantastic; no issues with cracking or anything; the natural looking ones are beautiful. Good luck.

+1 for 620. Since arriving from WCS along with a Chubby 1 in best it's amazing how I reach for the 620 more.

Short loft, acrylic handle. Nice!

+1 on these two, SOC's are great as well. Stay away from painted handles depending on your storage...if put into a rack for drying, they tend to chip. Doesn't affect performance, just looks. Can't lose with this company.

Another option if you are willing to consider wooden handles is the 1438. Smaller and nice tight knot.

If you don't want wood, I'll give you a suggestion no one else has. The 2030B. It has a heavy slim metal handle and a smaller knot. I think the loft isnt as short as some but that knot is a great knot with loads of backbone. And, I think you can get it from Vintage Scent for something like $15 shipped!

Boar brushes are not known for short lofts.

About the shortest I have found is the Semogue 2011 LE in style #1 (short loft) but it is not a small knot brush

Not quite accurate I'm afraid. The 610 has Best 90% tops, while the 620 has Extra 75% tops.
