Boar Discovery

I have a reasonable collection of nice brushes, three Simpsons, a Shavemac and an Edwin Jagger, they are a mixture of Best, Super, Silvertip,Two Band and Manchurian Badger so all high end Brushes.
Anyway I decided to buy a Semogue Owners Club in badger, have to admit the main reason for purchase was the lovely wooden handle on this brush.
So duly ordered it from Shaving i.e. in Dublin and awaited it's arrival.
Delivery was very quick and only a couple of days after ordering I was unwrapping my package.
Long story short they sent me an OC Boar by mistake. Anyway I got to thinking that I don't own a Boar brush and I've never tried one so why not keep it?
A quick e mail to Shaving ie and within an hour they had refunded the difference between the Badger and the Boar brush to my Paypal account(I didn't e mail them till 7.30pm so the service was fantastic).
Now to the punchline, I am super impressed with the Boar brush, I lathered it up three or four times to break it in a little bit before using it and had a great first shave with it. I can't believe how fast it whips up an enormous amount of lather, easily enough for four or five passes should you so wish.
Don't get me wrong I won't be getting rid of my Badger brushes but I will certainly be including the Boar brush in my rotation. The most amazing thing is that the Semogue OC Boar is a very well made high quality shaving brush that cost around a quarter of the price of my cheapest Badger Brush and a tenth of my Manchurian Badger brush.
So if you are starting out or are on a tight budget you can't go far wrong with this or from what I read on B&B any other Semogue brush.

Like you, I tend to use mainly badgers, but the SOC is the one boar I adore. I tend to limit its use to the Italian soft soaps where its performance is extraordinary. And as for the price...well that's a steal!

I was hesitant to purchase a boar brush at first too, but it wasn't because I didn't want to try one, it was more for fear that I would like it more than my more expensive badger brushes. And my Semogue 620 did not disappoint. I honestly wish I would have bought a boar brush instead of a cheaper badger brush when I first started. The extra backbone of the boar makes it easier to load soaps, or any product for that matter, so it makes it easier to make better lather IMHO.

I still like my badger brushes more than the boar overall, but any time I use hard soaps like MWF, DRH, etc, the Semogue gets the call every time.

Very similar to my experience. Although, I ordered the boar on purpose, I found it to be an incredible brush and a great value! I loved its quality construction and the handle so much, I ordered its sister in the SOC 2-Band. They are now my 2 favorite brushes with my Duke 2 in Best a close 3rd. Enjoy the brush!

I have a SOC boar on the way. It will be my first boar. Ordered it from vintagescent placed order on 8/27. I hope I get it soon. I had been hesetant to try since I face lather and had only touched a new VDH boar at the local walmart. It was just so stiff and did not feel soft.

I'm right there with ya! I just dived into the brush restoration hobby, working on restoring some with TGN & Whipped Dog badger knots. The problem now is that I have fallen hard for my Semogue 620 and newly acquired 1305. Not really using my badgers as much except when travelling, as they dry quicker.

Already getting tempted to order the Owners Club in Badger!

It's got some backbone to it, but the tips are wonderful. Personally, I feel like its the best badger on the market for the buck. I've since sold a Simpson Tulip 2-Band (didn't compare and WAY more expensive)...and quite a few other Super/Silvertips because I just couldn't justify them when compared to the $72 I ordered my 2-Band SOC for from Vintagescent.com

Boars like a lot of soap. Italian soft soaps like when you use a lot of them. Match made in heaven.

The SOC is a fantastic brush. Whenever I'm having trouble with any given soap, I whip out the SOC and the problem is solved.
