Boar & creams

I have recently developed a fondness for Boars over Badgers. I have a Semogue 620 & 1305. Given their backbone, I have only used soaps. Does anyone use creams with their boars?

I am a newish boar user, only the past few months. So I am sure their are more pig wise gents then I. But, I have the Semogue 610 and use it with creams pretty often. I find it works quite well.

To me, once a brush is loaded with soap it takes on a creamish texture anyway.

Given the generally stiffer boar bristles, I tend to use them more with firmer creams or croaps but not often with my soft creams. My boars work well with my Italian creams (Cella, P160, SMN) and that's where they see the most action, but my QCS creams are also fairly firm. Typically, though, with a soft cream like XPEC or even Tabula Rasa, I'll choose a badger.

Yes indeed! I use my 830 for tubs of Proraso, Cella, T.O.B.S. and my 620 for soap sticks! Both are excellent but I prefer the 830! :) Longer loft!

I do and while face lathering, put the cream on the brush and then to the face, I think I get better results than with a bowl, certainly it's faster.

I mix them all up from day to day... boar, badger, synthetic, soap, cream and stick. I would get "boared" using one thing all the time. I even like my $2.95 Turkish horse hair!

I made some killer lather with Windsor cream and a SOC boar this morning. Boar brushes are my first love.

Boars and creams is actually THE Portuguese way of shaving.

A typical Portuguese brush has a boar knot, most probably a Semogue and the shaver will typically use a cream tube, since soaps are not used here, I don't know why, I never understood it, maybe a cultural thing.

Anyway, it's a perfectly logical pair: Boar + cream

Funny...you don't look newish.

:biggrin1: It's cuz Ruste-eze bumper ointment is my sponsor. Throws people off

I recently had one of my best shaves ever with bigelow cream and a semogue 2011 LE bristle 1. So, yeah boars work just fine with soft creams.

Tried my new Semoque 1305 out yesterday with TOBS cream and it worked excellent. Nice lather (face latherer) and definately felt softer than my Tweezerman badger.

I was wondering the same thing!

I'm about 3 weeks into a Semogue 1305. Twice now I've just put the cream on my face, and lathered with the brush after it's been soaking in water for 5 minutes. Worked fine. Expect it will get even better as it breaks in.
