Boar brush dilemma

Hello guys,

I am seriously considering getting a new boar brush. I am between a Vulfix 18 and a Semogue Owner's Club Cherry, which one would you suggest?

P.S. I mainly bowl lather

Only you can tell which one you will prefer.

SOC has a wooden handle, whereas the Vulfix 18 is faux ivory. SOC also has a bigger knot and a bigger loft.

I have also a Semogue 1250 and that is why I am a bit skeptical about the SOC, I don't want to end up with two similar brushes.

Have you though about the B&B essential brush? It works very well, great with soaps ans creams. Takes a few days to get the funk out. A really great brush. As for Vulfix, I've had several and found them IMHO all to be set too high and there fore a little floppy.

Though I am a boar fan, and definitely have something going for Vulfix boars, they are both too long lofted for my taste. But I am a face and not a bowl latherer so that makes a difference.

For the handle go for the Vulfix but those boars from Vulfix are different. You often see Omega vs Semogue threads but compared to Vulfix boars the others are very close together. Vulfix boars have much more splay and are far less backbonish. Really great brushes when you are into that but it costed me the best part of a year of use to give the Vulfix the credit it deserved. The quality of the handle is at the same level as the Simpson and Vulfix badgers btw.

FWIW, I have a 1250 and an SOC. The 1250 gets more use, simply because the SOC is a bit too large - and floppy - for my goateed face. When I feel like using a big boar brush I find my Pro 49 or 48 gives me a little less bloom and much less flop.
The SOC sure is pretty, though. Love the cherrywood.

Thank you all for your replies!!!

I also own two omega brushes, an 18 and a Pro 48. But the colour of the hair in the B&B brush is different, does this mean that it is a better quality that the ones I already have?
