I put the Boar hair knot in an old ever-ready brush that I restored. It is a real stiff and scritchy brush. Some minimal shedding but works very good on hard soaps such as blenheim or haslinger. It does a fair job on creams but I don't use creams much.
Very nice brush and doesn't bloom much from how it appears in the picture. If you want a good exfoliating, scrubbing brush this is the one for you. It is way more stiff than anything else I have tried in Boar. it has become one of my favorites. The nylon I havn't tried yet...Just got to find another handle at the antique store to rebuild.
I have done one of each, and am impressed with the quality. The boar seems really well made, and the synthetic has lots of backbone, but the softest tips I have ever felt. Very nice.
I put that same 24 mm Golden Nib boar knot on a vintage Rubberset handle and it has become one of my favorite brushes. It holds alot of water, lathers extremely well and exfoliates like no other brush I've even had. I agree that it doesn't bloom very pretty but its a great brush.

I have an EJ Synthetic Travel brush and the softness of the synthetic tips is unbelievable (I was very surprised) so your statement doesn't surprise me. Unfortunately synthetics just don't hold water/lather like a Badger or Boar.
However, I think a Boar may be it for my EverReady handle.
I have used the boar and UK Boar knots from TGN several times in brushes, however, I never used a boar brush myself, but I know there are many that like them. The 24 mm boar is pretty mighty, the UK boars are pretty slim.
I've tried the English Boar knot, but I haven't tried many other boars, so I can't compare. It's not scratchy like some cheap boars. The nylon is wonderfully soft, and has pretty good backbone. It is a bit of a lather hog, though. Still, if he offered it in a 20mm I would be all over another one.
