Blue Lady Gillette with stars

My wife was digging through an old box and found her first razor that she used on her legs. This was in the late sixties.
Is this like the Gillette SuperSpeed I keep reading about here?
Is it a good razor?
It's not adjustable and has the two butterfly doors that open on top.

She said that it helped her lose a lot of blood in those days. She hated it.

its not a superspeed, its called a lady gillette. some women (and even men!) really like them - its sounds like it could have been a technique issue with your good wife, rather than equipment failure

Yep, it's called a Lady Gillette
It's pretty much a superspeed head on a longer handle. It's actually a well sought after razor both for guys trying to get their wives/girlfriends interested in the hobby and oddly enough, for manly men with big hands who find it easier to hold than the standard DE short handles.
It could also make transitioning easier for people used to long handled mach 3, etc.

I bought one for my girlfriend and one for my sister, neither of them use it anymore...

Not the same as the SuperSpead. Both are not adjustable, however. I've read posts where some guys claim that they are a good non-aggressive shavers. I don't recall ever using one myself, but have acquired all 4 colors as gifts for my wife (in an effort to get her hooked on DE shaving). There are 2 shades of blue, a champaigne (golden) and pink color available. It appears to me that the blue shades account for more than 50% of the razors I've seen circulating, however (more like 85% I've seen for sale are one of the blue colors). The pink was the hardest to come by, in my experience.

Well, she was 13 or so, and remembers the pain and blood well.

i bought one of these for my wife awhile back, and it's her main razor now (still shaves with her gillette venus3 once in awhile to use up the cartridges)

a lot of guys will use these though - longer (and lighter) handle than the super speeds - i've heard the shaves compared to the blue tip super speeds but haven't had any experience with that myself

The Lady Gillette razors do have Superspeed heads. They were marketed to women as razors for legs/underarms. But apparently they failed spectacularly at being good razors for the legs. Don't know why.

They are great, gentle razors. A Lady Gillette was my first DE and it gave a great shave. A couple of friends use them to shave their heads - something about the longer handle being easier to use.

There is definitely a market for them - they get almost as much action as Red Tips and Fat Boys on th'Bay.

You're right. I have a beautiful light blue one in the case and have two razor sellers on the lookout for me for different color ones. I just love the looks of this razor.

I agree, and just picked up a dirty nasty one which cleaned up beautifully for $14. In fact, it's my current 'go to' razor; gives a really nice shave to this neophyte shaver.

Like it a lot.

Not only is it a great shaver(yes, it is a SuperSpeed head w/ a longer handle), it looks mighty purty. Ladies loss is men's gain. The Blue Lady is now my favorite razor. I t performs just like the flare-tip SS.

My lord, the metro quotient really went up in this thread.

Even my wife started DE'ing with a 40's SS, now she's using a Knack

Well, I cleaned it up and tried it this evening after a shower. It sure is easier on the face than my slant. I may have to let my face heal a few days, since I re-cut the same places on my chin and neck that the slant originally helped with.

hi all
i have one and they are quite mild to shave with.
don't use it very often ,but nice shave when i do .

It sounds like you've already had your question answered and given it a try, but here are my thoughts anyways ... I have a 56 SuperSpeed and I just got a Lady Gillette. I've had a chance to shave twice with it and I really like it. They are definitely similar as others have mentioned. The Lady Gillette has a longer handle and feels just the tiniest bit lighter. I think it also has a slightly lower profiled head. I've found that it shaves very comparably to my SS in terms of aggressiveness and I like the longer handle.
