After using my superspeed for a while and then switching back to my old type, I noticed that the old type is a bit rougher. There are a number of reasons that could cause this. I could have an imperceptible "frown" on the blade... Also some of the teeth have been bent back into place, and this could cause some slight unevenness. No matter what the cause, I think a blade shim could be the answer. So, today I made a shim, and it does lift the blade off the teeth like I hoped. I am going to give it a shot today. Has anybody else had any luck with shims?

I started this thread recently, but with the purpose of "souping up" my Tech razors a little (giving them a little more "bite").

I tried it out with the shim tonight, and I must say that It was much smoother than before. I only had one tiny weeper to contend with rather than the usual 3 or so weepers whenever I bust this piece out... I am really glad this worked, as my feathers are about to get here, and I was worried what might happen when the blades get even sharper!!! I shall now have no fear. 
I've tried W/shim and Wout/shim.....Thanks to some great advice here, I adjusted my technique and get great Old shaves w/out a shim.

don't get me wrong, I am all for improving technique, but with this piece I have had a hair wedge between the blade and the end tooth on more than one occasion, essential stopping the whole show while I carefully pry the razor off my face... This at least cannot happen anymore

Really just blade angle....I was using the Old with the same blade angle as I do for all other post Old Gillettes.....and not getting good results. I was told to flatten out the angle....like using an SE....With a little practice my Old big fellow is now one of my top 5 shavers! But hey...whatever works for you, go with it!
