Blade Advice

So I am new to the B&B and have been shaving with a safety razor for just a couple of years. I recently found a sample pack and wanted to see what other blades you guys can recommend. I like feather blades pretty well so far. The blades in my new pack are:

Merkur Platinum
Trig Silver
Derby Extra
Sharp High Chrome
Bic Chrome Platinum
Astra Superior (least favorite so far)
Dorco Blue
Dorco Red
7am Plus
Feather Platinum
Wilkinson Classic

Also, where do you guys buy your blades? I found these on amazon for a good price, but it seems that the variety was somewhat limited.

Thanks for the info and I definitely look forward to better shaves....

Welcome aboard! I must say, that sample pack seems jam-packed with blades that a lot of board members don't get along well with (though there are proponents for almost all). Fortunately, YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).

I would have recommended the Astras! This goes to show you that it's you and your face that will decide things in the end. If you end up liking Feathers, you'll be in plenty of company. :001_smile

I bought this one as it has several blades which I haven't tried. I'll definitely approach with Astras again and hopefully this time around, my experience will be different. Do you have recommendations on where I can find a larger variety of blades? Any particular websites?

Razor Blades and More Co. is pretty good for the 'standard' blades, good, quick delivery in my experience.
West Coast Shaving seem to have a good range, but not as attractive prices. I've only just tried them today, so I can't comment on their service yet...
Bestshave.net seem to have some odd uncommon blades and other products at very cheap prices. Again, have not yet tried them.
dridiot is a B&B member who sells blades at attractive prices. I haven't tried him, but I'm sure there are others who can comment on his services.

If you're Australian, Kinetic Blue and Himage stock blades, but to be honest the Australia Tax makes them pretty unattractive unless you can't afford to wait for shipping.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I'm on bestshave.net now checking out there inventory. I'm looking forward to my next blade order. What do y'all do when you get an order of blades you don't like? Use them anyway or toss them? Also, in your experience, what's your favorite blade?

Before anyone can suggest a blade it would be helpful if you said what razor you were going to put it in...

I have 2 different razors that I use regularly. The first one is one that was handed to down to me by the father of the a good friend who got me into this type of shaving. I'm not sure of the brand. It is neither a fat boy nor a long razor however. The second razor is the one I use the majority of the time. It is a Merkur Long Classic (23C). I'm assuming based on your post that the type of razor/blade pairing is important? Do different razors handle various blades differently?
